About the Position:The mission of the Corpus Christi Army Depot is to overhaul, repair, modify, retrofit, test and modernize helicopters, engines and components for all services and foreign military customers. Corpus Christi Army Depot (CCAD) is the Army's Center of Industrial and Technical Excellence for Rotary Wing Aviation Maintenance.

Duties

This is a developmental position. If the selection should be at the lower grade level the incumbent will perform duties under closer than normal supervision. Assignments become progressively more difficult until the full performance level is reached. Perform a full range of plating, stripping, metal treating, cleaning/corrosion treating, and inspection operations required to process metal surfaces of aircraft, aircraft engine parts and other assigned workload. Apply skill in adapting and utilizing holding devices, jigs and fixtures to orient parts with intricate contours of internal and external metal surfaces. Inspect the quality of finished plating and makes dimensional inspections of parts by the use of precision instruments. Perform periodic inspections of hazardous waste sites.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position requires a yearly physical IAW 29 CFR 1910.124(h)(4), which requires employees who work with chromic acid to have periodic examinations of their exposed body parts, especially their nostrils.
  • This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Testing Program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
  • This position requires a personnel security background check, (Tier 1).
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification on following three methods: Nital Etch Inspector, Brush Plate, and Brush Tagnite within 1 year.
  • This position is being filled at the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift.

Work under closer than normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WG-3711-07 - Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electroplater Worker without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform common Electroplater Worker duties such as plating, stripping, metal treating, cleaning/corrosion treating, and inspection operations required to process metal surfaces of aircraft, aircraft engine parts and other assigned workload. Ability to pre-plate and post-plate treatments and operations for the brush plating operation and inspect the quality of finished plating and make dimensional inspections of parts to ensure that thickness of plating is within specified tolerance. Work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WG-3711-09 - Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Electroplater without more than normal supervision. The ability to perform duties such as use established processes to plate, coat, and treat metal items. Ability to adjust solution levels, check solution temperatures, and make routine settings and adjustments to electrolytic and chemical equipment. Prepare parts by standard cleaning methods. Set up and provide proper treatments and processes for the metal parts to be plated. Calculate surface dimensions and apply the results in making routine amperage and voltage adjustments or settings to the electrolytic equipment. Use micrometers, calipers, and gages to determine the amount of plating deposited. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside shop areas having adequate light, ventilation, and safety controls. Exposed to acid solutions, solvents, hot waxes, noxious fumes, and a variety of caustic chemicals. Protection from exposure to burns, scalds, and skin irritations often requires the worker to wear uncomfortable safety equipment such as safety glasses, rubber gloves, rubber aprons, goggles, face shields, or respirators. Working conditions have been considered in the evaluation of this position.
