About the Position: This position is located at the 17th Medical Group at Goodfellow AFB, TX.

Duties

Plan, organize, and direct the activities of the Medical Readiness Program by ensuring programs comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs. Manage policies and procedures to ensure accomplishment of programs and to find ways to improve quality, timeliness, and efficiency of work. Develop criteria for exercise contingency response plans, checklists, program reviews, and quality assurance reviews. Monitor unit's emergency response program operations and requirements by ensuring actions taken are in accordance with (IAW) checklists and other regulations. Provide advice, guidance, and direction on all medical readiness related meetings, response plans, recall rosters, status reports, training schedules, and other related activities and tools. Serve as the primary point of contact to provide knowledgeable information and recommendations for installation-level disaster response requirements for Medical Counter-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (MC-CBRN) sustainment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work on call during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work weekends and/or holidays.

Basic Requirements for Medical Readiness Specialist: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes providing medical disaster guidance for a variety of emergency situations; developing criteria for exercising contingency response plans; and monitoring emergency response program operations to ensure action requirements are met. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a related field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Emergency Management. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer SkillsManages and Organizes InformationOral CommunicationOrganizational Awareness Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-09).
