This position for The Defense Information Systems Agency is at the DISA-Joint Service Provider (JP).

Duties

Operates, installs, removes, repairs, inspects, troubleshoots, overhauls, rebuilds, modifies, tests, adjusts, fabricates, and engineers/designs/devises programs. Maintains complex analog and digital voice, data, audio and video telecommunication end-to-end and point-to-point transmission systems. Follows procedures for equipment to include: Ethernet, FDDI, SONET and band-with management transmission systems. Follows prescribed procedures and directives for a wide range of equipment to include: amplifiers and power dividers, wideband Radio Frequency (RF) transmitters and receivers, optical transmitters and receivers, RF modulators, data and audio. Follows procedures for equipment to include: digital/analog multiplexer, status controllers and central processing units, translators/format converters, fiber optic modem, media converters receiver/transmitters/with intergraded status controllers. Test equipment, optical power meter, Automatic Test Equipment (ATE), vector scope, waveform monitor, optical and metallic Time Domain Reflectometer (TDR) and mechanical measuring instruments.

  • This national security position, which may require access to classified information, requires a favorable suitability review and security clearance as a condition of employment. Failure to maintain security eligibility may result in termination.
  • Must be able to obtain/maintain Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
  • This is a drug testing position.
  • Employee may be required to work rotating shifts. Employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • Must be able to maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Must obtain and maintain a school training/certification on cryptographic equipment.
  • Employee may be required to work overtime on an emergency basis. Employee may be recalled to duty.
  • Must have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth. Must not have a fear of height or confined spaces.

Qualifications

Qualifications: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the Office of Personnel Management Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties at the level for which you are applying. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of an ELECTRICAL ELECTRONICS CRAFTSWORKER without more than normal supervision. Applicant must have the ability to perform common journey level tasks associated with the repair and maintenance of electronic equipment including receiving oral instructions as the nature of repairs, installation, or maintenance to be made, and can proceed to carry out the work, receiving advice and assistance as required, in cleaning, making adjustments and/or repairs, calibration, and retest of equipment including various relays, meters, recorders, controllers, indicators, radio transmitters and receivers, oscillators and amplifiers, electronic relays and other electronic and communication equipment. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (Screen-out Element) Ability To Use Hand and Power Tools - Electronics Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Trouble shooting (Electronic Equipment) Use of Test Equipment: Electronics PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent handles heavy parts and equipment and works in cramped quarters in tiring positions. Physical effort requires climbing stairs and ladders, and lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling and twisting objects frequently weighing up to, and occasionally over, 40 pounds, and standing for long periods of time on hard surfaces. Ability to work in awkward positions requiring bending, stooping, kneeling, pushing, pulling and twisting. A high degree of concentrated mental and visual attention is necessary to determine cause of trouble and to plan and carry out corrective action; to interpret complex drawings; and to coordinate a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods. Ability to distinguish colors is essential. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works both inside and outside the powerhouse other structures, and outdoors. Outside work subjects employee to usual climate conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow). Work is often unpleasant due to weather, dirt, grease, dust, high noise levels, etc. There is danger of serious injury or death if employee contacts energized equipment and danger of drowning when working above swift moving water. May work with a variety of toxic or caustic materials. Required to work in concrete structures. There is a possibility of cuts, burns, falls, and electrical shock Employee is subject to the discomfort of wearing required safety equipment such as ear plugs, hard hats, gloves, safety glasses, safety harness, etc. Must wear appropriate safety equipment and protective clothing, and successfully complete and maintain all occupational health requirements.
