The Civil Division, Office of Human Resources is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated intern to work in a fast-paced team environment. The ideal candidate for this position is self-motivated and willing to learn all facets of staffing and recruitment. The successful candidate will be given a variety of entry level duties selected to broaden skills and provide experience for progressively more complex work.

Duties

As a GS-0299-04/05- HR Student Trainee, your typical work assignments may include the following: Resolving standard inquiries regarding application status or application issues. Posting attorney vacancy announcements using an automated system. Receiving applicant inquiries via phone and/or email. Preparing paperwork to bring new hires on board. Providing support to HR specialists involved in staffing, recruitment, and classification. Creating and maintain information regarding hiring. Responding to inquiries and provides HR information concerning standard processing procedures and requirements related to recruitment, staffing and classification.   • Must sign a Pathways Internship Program Participant Agreement.
  • Must maintain status as a current student.
  • Must provide verification of academic status (transcript) at the end of each academic term.

Qualifications

This vacancy is open to CURRENT STUDENTS, enrolled in, or accepted for enrollment in, a degree-seeking program at a college, university, vocational school, or other professional certification program, on a basis of at least half-time, as defined by your academic institution. You must continue to be enrolled in the degree-seeking program during your appointment. Upon the successful completion of program requirements, you may be eligible for conversion to a permanent position (or, in some limited circumstances, to a term position lasting 1-4 years), pending agency approval. In addition, if you are appointed to a position under this program, you will need to complete a requisite number of work and training hours, based on the agreement you will complete with your hiring office and the agency Pathways program coordinator. In addition to the requirements above, you must also meet the specific qualifications requirements for this announcement and the occupational series and grade of this position as described in the Qualifications section below. To qualify for the position of Student Trainee (Human Resources) (GS-0299-4/5), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade. To qualify for the GS-4, You must have one year of general experience: Providing clerical, office, or other work that indicates your ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of a Human Resources Trainee. or 2 years above high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school. or Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. To qualify for the GS-5, You must have one year of specialized experience that is equivalent to the GS-4 level: performing various administrative and clerical support activities such as answering phones and distributing mail, updating databases or spreadsheets, preparing documents, and operating office automation equipment, including personal computers, printers, copiers, fax, calculators, etc. or Completion of four (4) academic years of post-high school study (undergraduate) leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. or Combining Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/25/2024.
