This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is with 434th FA BDE, Fires Center of Excellence (FCoE) located at Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

Duties

Perform a range of treatment procedures for patients; utilize auxiliary equipment to treat patients using hot and cold packs; change sterile dressings. Take and record blood pressure, pulse, respiration, temperature, height and weight; measure and record intake and output; and give routine care to pre and postoperative and pre and postpartum patients. During examinations and treatment of patients, position and drape patient, select instrument, set up equipment and instruments and hand instruments to physician as required. Provide personal care to include bathing, shaving, feeding, rubbing backs, and making equipment and supplies available to patient such as bedpans, linen, and grooming items. Provide patient care as assigned to include documentation of nursing activities in patients' records, as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has specific initial background investigation and periodic re-verification requirements since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age on a recurring basis.
  • This position is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations. Applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to sign a statement consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • All Health Care Providers must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) training and certification that is sponsored or endorsed by the American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Current Advanced Life Support or other advanced certification does not supersede BLS completion.
  • A pre-placement medical examination is required.
  • This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Duty hours are subject to adjustment, i.e., may include early morning and late night hours, if duty location is in support of training.
  • Employee will be required to wear and use personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
  • The work requires the employee to work evenings/nights; rotating shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays or other schedules common to hospital operations.
  • Employee will possess a valid driver’s license, and fulfill requirements for driving a military vehicle, as needed.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Experience: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least six (6) months of general experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position, or provided a familiarity with nonprofessional nursing care, such as performing work in a hospital, outpatient clinic, nursing home, or other medical, nursing or patient care facility AND six (6) months of specialized experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: providing personal nursing care, such as, feeding, bathing, or transporting patients; maintaining patient medical records; and obtaining vital signs or specimens from patients. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service GS-03. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you may qualify if your education meets the definitions below: Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04: Successful completion of a two-year degree program in an accredited community college, junior college, or college or university in practical nursing or in a field of study appropriate to the specialization of the position, such as education in a program for psychology, psychiatric, or operating room technician. OR Combination of Experience and Education Substitution for Specialized Experience for GS-04: If you have some, but not all of the experience or education described above, you may still qualify by combining the amount of creditable experience and education that you possess. To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of undergraduate education by 60. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100% to qualify.
