This is an Internship position in the Pathways Program. This is an Excepted Service appointment. The Pathways Internship Program offers candidates the opportunity to gain valuable on-the-job training and experience related to the Auditing career field. Interns may work full-time or part-time schedules.

Duties
Gathers background information for assigned audit areas to include missions and functions, resources and applicable laws, regulations, guidance and studies.
Assists in identifying and testing internal controls and performing other applicable audit tests to aid the audit team with applicable contract audit functions and develops conclusions regarding data collected and analyzed.
Assists audit team with the compilation, arrangement and evaluation of data and preparation of audit working papers and summaries detailing the results of the work for audit steps.
Assists in maintaining appropriate audit administrative files, time control information and data needed to track pertinent information to assist the audit team.
Examines and reviews accounting documents such as payroll and vouchers to identify and verify costs and determines propriety and validity appropriate.
Requirements

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance (at a minimum); some positions require a TS/SCI - Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information; A Counterintelligence Scope Polygraph (CI/Poly) may be required
- Must complete online Occupational Assessment Questionnaire
- Must comply with the Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS)
- Must sign written agreement regarding Federal Government Ethics and Conflicts of Interest
- Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a scale of 4.0
- Must be enrolled at a qualifying educational institution at least half time
- Trial Period: Selectees will be required to serve a trial period
Qualifications
Applicants must be current students or enrolled for Fall 2024 pursuing a degree or certificate in a qualifying educational institution. To be creditable, education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
Qualifying Education Institution: Any of the following educational institutions or curricula that have been accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education(https://ope.ed.gov/accreditation/Search.aspx)

1) A 2-year or 4-year college or university; OR
2) A graduate or professional school (e.g., law school, medical school)

Basic Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-599-03: Completion of one academic year of post-high school study.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-599-04: Completion of two academic years of post-high school study or associate's degree.
Minimum Qualifications for the GS-599-05: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-4 or equivalent level. Specialized experience is performing a variety of support functions using standardized procedures that require application and understanding of financial, auditing or accounting concepts, policies, principles and regulations.
OR
A bachelor's degree or four years (120 semester hours) of post high school education leading to a bachelor's degree may be substituted to meet the specialized experience requirement. To be creditable, education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university. (You MUST submit transcripts or proof of education to verify your claim).
Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school level education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements.
** The required education must lead to an undergraduate degree in Accounting or a related field (accounting, auditing, business administration, economics, finance, or public administration) with a total of 24 or more semester hours in Accounting including up to 6 semester hours in Business Law.
This is an Excepted Service appointment. Interns may be converted to a permanent or term (time-limited) position within 120 days of successful completion of the program. To be eligible for conversion, interns must: complete at least 640 hours of work experience acquired through the Internship Program; complete their degree or certificate requirements; meet the qualification standards for the position to which the Intern will be converted, which includes completion of 24 semester hours in accounting, 6 of which may be in business law; meet agency-specific requirements as specified in the Pathways Participant Agreement; and perform their job successfully. Time spent under previous Internship Program appointments may count towards required work experience hours.
Initial Trial Period: The entire period served under the Pathways Program is the initial trial period.
Telework: Telework availability will be based upon the mission requirements and supervisory determination.
