About the Position: This is a permanent position as a Fabric Worker (Tailoring) Leader with the Central Issue Facility Branch at Fort Jackson, SC.

Duties

Serves as a working leader over eight or more wage grade fabric workers in the performance of clothing alterations and fitting operations. Oversee relocation of stock for convenience in resupplying bins, shelves, and from one warehouse to another. Measures, fits, and issues clothing and footwear to authorized service members processing through the Clothing Initial Issue Point (CIIP). Work operational problems and perform on-the-job training requirements to individual employees. Ensures that needed plans, standard operating procedures, materials, personal protective equipment, and tools are available.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to work flexible tours of duty to include alternating shifts/irregular hours, weekends, night shift, or day shifts.
  • Must make every effort to report to work and/or remain at work during inclement weather.
  • This position requires a pre-employment and annual physical.
  • Lifting: This position has a requirement to lift 40lbs. - 70 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to Lead or Supervise the work of a(n) FABRIC WORKER (TAILORING) LEADER~ without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common task that maintains current knowledge base and answers questions of other workers on policies, procedures, and written instructions. I can perform common measurements for fitting, and issuing of clothing and foot wear to authorized personnel. For selecting boots and/or shoes from racks according to size indicated and visual observation of the foot structure, width, arch instep. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specifications, etc. (Other Than Blueprint Reading)Ability to Lead or SuperviseAbility to Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, and Repair, etc.Knowledge of MaterialsMeasurement and LayoutTechnical Practices (Theoretical, Precise, Artistic) PHYSICAL EFFORT Fitting duties require frequently lifting items weighing 40-70 pounds independently and occasionally lifts up to 100 pounds with assistance. Work involves continuous standing and walking on concrete floors, bending, stooping, kneeling and reaching above heads. Sewing duties require sitting for long periods of time with continual movement of hands, arms and fingers placing items in position for sewing operations. WORKING CONDITIONS Works in moderately heated, lighted and ventilated building, however, it is subject to heat from the adjacent pressing area. Is subject to cuts abrasions, bruises or strains from handling boxes and bundles of clothing. There is some danger of minor hand injuries such as injuries to fingers from needles and to serious hand cuts when operating the pants cutting machine. Frequently exposed to unpleasant body odors Work surroundings are noisy and crowded from the number of soldiers processing.
