This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base Facilities and the Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

Perform organizational and field maintenance and repairs to gasoline and diesel vehicles. Use a variety of test equipment such as compressor gauges, vacuum gauges, timing lights, emission control analyzers, and electronic ignition analyzers. Clean, install, or replace defective parts of components and systems such as spark plugs, wheel cylinders, mufflers, brake shoes, fuel pumps, fuel lines, filters, etc. Make repairs to electrical equipment such as switches, generators, voltage regulators, circuit breakers, and related relays and wiring. Balance tires and wheels using centrifugal wheel balancing machine and lubricates vehicles according to specifications. Repair or replace parts on factory installed and self-contained air conditioning and heating units. Operate a wide variety of motor vehicles ranging in size from one-half ton pickup to tractor-trailer rig to pick up, deliver, and move supplies and materials both on and off post.

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

• This position requires you to be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
• This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
• This position is a Domestic Violence Offender Gun Ban commonly referred to as Lautenberg Amendment. This act bans individuals convicted of misdemeanor domestic violence and certain others from possession or access to firearms or ammunition.
• The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess and maintain a valid state .
• This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.

Qualifications

About the Position: Incumbent performs maintenance and repairs to gasoline and diesel vehicles such as trucks, sedans, jeeps, farm equipment (tractors, mowers), construction equipment (loaders, back hoes, bobcats, bulldozers), forklifts (diesel, gas, electric), generators and trailers. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Automotive Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. Performing common organizational and field maintenance and repairs to gasoline and diesel vehicles. Clean, install, or replace defective mechanical parts of components and systems. Install new mechanical assemblies. Balance tires and wheels using centrifugal wheel balancing machine. Lubricate vehicles according to specifications. Road test a variety of vehicles on and off post. Operate a wide variety of motor vehicles up to one-half ton pickup to deliver and move supplies and materials both on and off post. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work can be physically demanding which required the use of stairs, ladders, climbing on large equipment and able to lift up to fifty pounds. Will be required to operate manual and auto type equipment and vehicles. When meeting with crews will be required to meet technicians in a field environment. Required to stand and walk significant distances to various facilities to meet with technical crews. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Field work will expose the incumbent to noise, dirt, wet surfaces and working in rough terrain environment when visiting various Project locations. Administrative duties of this position are performed in an office setting, it is well lit, heated, and ventilated.
