About the Position: Serves as a design coordinator assisting senior Technical Leads for a wide range of conventional and unconventional Military and Interagency and International Support (IIS) Construction projects.

Duties
Serve as team leader for the in-house design of building projects at Department of Defense (DOD) installations and other federal agency locations, e.g. Administrative/training facilities, vehicle repair buildings, storage structure, etc.
Review work performed by others to insure that areas of overlapping responsibility between technical disciplines receive proper design attention.
Prepare drawings, specifications, and supporting documents for advertised or negotiated procurements.
Serve as a technical consultant for Sustainable Design Development (SDD) topics and inquiries regarding design matters, as well as instructing architectural engineering (A-E) firm architects.
Prepare modifications to existing construction contracts including preliminary and final drawings and details which properly facilitate required changed into the completed project.
Survey/investigate proposed sites or existing structures to note physical features and equipment, takes necessary dimensions, construction details and interior features and evaluates conditions in terms of technical and economic features.
Requirements

- Must obtain and maintain a valid state issued driver's license.
- Requires work that is essentially sedentary with occasional physical activity in varying weather conditions during field surveys or the inspection of existing facilities and requiring use of hard hats and appropriate safety gear.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes the study, planning, layout, and design of diverse and complex military and DVA facilities, such as: warehouses, instructional buildings, fire stations or the civilian equivalent, barracks or community living centers, medical and dental facilities, including clinics and hospitals; performing technical reviews of architectural design products developed internally or by Architectural-Engineering firms, and resolving design related problems arising during construction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
