This position serves as an Accounting Technician for the VISN 7 Consolidated Accounting Office (CAO). This position will perform the function of either Obligator or Payer, as assigned.

The major duties listed below represent the full performance level of GS-07. At the GS-05/06 grade level, you will perform assignments of a more limited scope and with less independence. You will progressively acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-07. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher-level work, and availability of funds. Major duties and responsibilities include: Processes accounting transactions for a variety of functions. Performs either the financial management system obligator or payer function. Classifies accounting transactions. Maintains and reconciles accounts. Prepares reports and statements and analyzes accounting data. Validates, monitors, controls, and maintains accounting transactions and accounting records for multiple accounts. Reconciles subsidiary ledgers to general ledgers for accounts having a variety of transactions. Researches discrepancies between ledgers and makes adjustments. Provides assistance and training to fund control point contacts. Participates in the internal audits of fiscal programs, vulnerability assessments, and many other program audits involving cost, obligation, and receivable accounting systems. Performs other duties as assigned. To qualify for this position, you must fulfill one of the following qualifications: You may qualify at the GS-05 level if you fulfill one of the following qualifications: -GS-05 Specialized Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience includes: working with an automated financial management system; processing accounting transactions and accounting records. -OR- -GS-05 Education: Successful completion of 4 years above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) -OR- -GS-5 Combined Experience and Education: Equivalent combinations of education and specialized experience (as described above) to meet the requirements at the GS-5 level.
