The NIH Clinical Center is seeking a dynamic, experienced scientific administrator to serve as the Deputy Chief of the Radiology and imaging Sciences Department. In this role you will assist with setting the strategic direction for science and clinical operations for the Department, lead department wide change efforts, develop budget strategies and cost-saving initiatives and assess organizational effectiveness.

Duties

Performing programmatic and management duties for the Department and supervises the department’s functions and staff through subordinate supervisors. Serving as the report to supervisor for administrative work performed by all non-supervisor GS-602 staff. All technical portions of the GS-602 staff will be overseen by the Department Chief (GP-602 Physician) for compliance and approval. Assisting with setting the strategic direction for the Department and determining the necessary goals, objectives and initiatives to achieve the strategic direction and developing plans to implement these. Evaluating staff and organizational effectiveness in accomplishing assigned goals and tasks and trouble-shooting problems that arise in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Department. Conducting quality control assessments and taking any necessary actions based on the results of the assessment. Developing, and implementing budget strategies to support organizational expectations, and developing, implementing and evaluating cost saving initiatives. Developing, evaluating, and adjusting organizational structures and management systems for the work managed.

Qualifications

Education Qualification Requirement: In order to qualify for a Supervisory Radiological Specialist GS-601, position you must have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree or graduate/higher level degree with major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. (This degree must be from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained). Additional Qualification Requirement: In addition, in order to qualify for a Supervisory Radiologic Specialist-GS-601, at the GS-15 level, you must have at least one (1) year of qualifying specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-14 level in the Federal Government obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following types of tasks:Managing or directing major components of a radiologic or imaging program department; providing strategic and business advice to senior level officials on a wide range of complex policy or program matters involving significant or controversial issues; developing and implementing policies, procedures, or initiatives to meet organization needs and accomplish program objectives; managing resources allocated to the department and identifying needs for additional resources; and developing and implementing budget strategies to support organizational expectations. You will receive credit for all experience material to the position, including experience gained in religious, civic, welfare, service, and organizational activities, regardless of whether you received pay.
