About the Position: This position is located in the Directorate of Surgery, Audiology/Speech Pathology Service at Tripler Army Medical Center (TAMC) with the Defense Health Agency, Indo-Pacific Market, Hawaii Region.
The incumbent for this position serves as master clinical speech-language pathologist assigned to the Speech-Language Pathology Section.

Duties
Formulate diagnostic evaluation and therapy for patients with severe communication and swallowing disorders. Educates and trains medical staff, residents, and clinicians.
Serve as communication and swallowing consultant to hospital staff (including specialized physician teams, interdisciplinary meetings and ward conferences).
Set standard of clinical services and objectives, which will be determined by the administrative needs of the Service.
Supervise interning graduate student clinicians.
Coordinate with the Chief, Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Services and pertinent hospital staff in designing and conducting specialized research studies to further professional knowledge and operations.
Plan work schedules and assignments to assure an even flow and distribution of work, the expeditious handling of priorities, that schedules and deadlines are met and to meet changes in workload.

- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 30 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Basic Requirements for Speech/Language Pathologist:
Degree: A graduate or higher level degree that included 18 semester hours in the field of speech pathology with approved clinical practice. The education program must have been approved, recognized, or accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice Speech/Language Pathology in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes Investigating and studying the underlying causes, precipitating factors, symptomatic behavior, and the emotional and practical effect upon the patient of a particular impaired speech pattern; resolving speech impairments; and counseling patients and/or families in the adjustment to the speech impairment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
