THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for an Electronics Mechanic, Position Description Number D0874000 and is part of the Army Aviation Support Facility (AASF) of the Vermont Army National Guard.

Duties

(1) Repairs, inspects, maintains, modifies, overhauls and installs a variety of avionics electronics equipment of moderate complexity of design, construction, and function. Units worked on include components, assemblies, and subassemblies of UHF and VHF radio sets, VOR navigation radios, automatic direction finder (ADF) navigation radios, AM and FM radio sets, radio marker beacons, intercommunication sets, control consoles, speakers, stabilization augmentation systems(SAS), and similar electronic and navigation equipment. Equipment functions include transmission, reception, indication, transformation, computation, mixing, amplification, conversion, sweep and pulse generation, timing, and modulation. (2) Diagnoses equipment malfunctions and troubleshoots components, assemblies or subassemblies. Removes and replaces defective or malfunctioning parts, including transistors, diodes, resistors, capacitors, and switches. Modifies equipment in accordance with published Modification Work Orders or Technical Bulletins. Troubleshoots aircraft wiring harnesses and connectors and repairs by replacing wires, junction boxes, etc. Installs equipment in the aircraft and completes operational tests. (3) When designated on NGB Flying Status Orders, serves as member of flight crew for the purpose of diagnosing and recording malfunctions, or otherwise determining maintenance and repair requirements. (4) Guides lower level mechanics in the performance of duties. Conducts on-the-job training on assigned systems and related support equipment and tasks to include classroom instruction as necessary. (5) Processes and accounts for due-in supply assets. Ensures that materiel and equipment are properly stored, protected and maintained and that funds are not obligated for materiel or parts without proper justification. (6) Prepares for and participates in various types of readiness evaluations such as Operational Readiness Evaluations (ORE), Command Logistics Readiness Inspections(CLRT-X), and Aviation Resource Management Surveys. May be required to perform additional duties such as structural fire fighting, aircraft handling, heavy equipment operation, and maintenance of facilities and equipment, or serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies. Complies with safety, fire, security, and housekeeping regulations. (7) Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Must possess or be eligible for award of the appropriate security clearance for this position.

  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours; overtime may be required.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED: This is a Title 32 excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the National Guard. Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform. Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment. Applicants who are not currently a member of the Vermont Army National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement. OPEN AREAS OF CONSIDERATION: AREA 1, 2,3, 4 Area I: All current On-board Permanent and Indefinite Dual Status 32 and Title 5 (Competitive and Excepted) Technicians (Tenure: 1-Career, 2-Conditional, 3-Indefinite) - Only those Vermont National Guard members who are in permanent or indefinite technician status as a result of being competitively hired within that National Guard component applying for a position within the component which they are currently employed. Area II: All Members of the Vermont Army National Guard. Area III: Currently assigned service members in other branches of the military outside of the VTNG, to include those assigned to Active Duty, Reserve or other state's National Guard. Area IV: All individuals able to and willing to become members of the Vermont National Guard including prior service not currently assigned to a military component and non-prior service US civilians. Military Grades: PVT/E1 through SFC/E7 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates the applicants knowledge of electrical or electronic theory, knowledge of common testing procedures, skill in the use of hand tools of the electronics trade, and skill in reading schematics. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of 18 months experience or training in utilizing principles, basic functions and application of theory of electronic systems or equipment. Experience in diagnosing problems and determining needed repairs for malfunctions in electronic equipment or systems. Experience in making mechanical repairs that required the use of precision measuring and calibrating equipment. Experience in using complex test equipment such as deviation meters, complex special test panels, etc. Experience which demonstrates the ability to interpret technical manuals, specifications, and publications. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Please be advised: 1.
