Duties

Responsible for preparing project level plans for multiple recreation sites spread over a wide geographic area according to guidance provided in management plans and guidelines. Assures that all work is done according to approved NEPA documents and management decisions. Plans day-to-day operations of a recreation area coordinating routine activities with maintenance personnel. Responsible for the technical and administrative supervision of professional, technical, clerical and administrative work to carry out the mission of the organization. Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates; makes assignments based on capability and expertise; evaluates the work performance of subordinates; and develops performance standards. Prepares requests for hiring new positions, interviews candidates for positions; recommends appointment, promotion or assignment for positions. Reviews visitor use patterns and their effect on the resources; instrumental in making changes in operations or facilities when necessary.

  • Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.
  • This position requires you to wear an officially-approved uniform while in a duty status. The incumbent is required to wear the uniform in accordance with applicable policies and be required to sign a condition of uniform wear statement.
  • An applicant appointed to this position must possess (or obtain within 30 days of entrance on duty) and maintain a valid state driver's license while employed in this position.
  • May require a one-year probationary period.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: Managing outdoor recreation management related projects; supervising crews or individuals performing land management type work; assessing and performing maintenance on outdoor recreation facilities such as trailheads, campgrounds, or trail systems. -OR- Education: 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate education or a master's or equivalent degree related to the occupation. - OR- Combination of Education and Experience: You may meet qualifications requirement for this position with an equivalent combination of specialized experience and appropriate graduate education. Graduate level education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. NOTE: I will provide a copy of my transcripts to support this. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
