About the Position: This is a permanent position with Headquarters (HQ), US Army Corps of Engineers, US Army Geospatial Center, (AGC) Security Office, Alexandria, VA. Competition for Security Guard positions are restricted by law to persons entitled to veterans preference as long as such applicants are available for appointment. Non-veterans/non-preference eligibles will be considered only after ALL veterans preference eligibles have been considered.

Duties

Independently performs, access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirement as a guide to access determination for a wide range of unique circumstances Authenticates identification through use of electronic means such as the Defense Information System for Security Web application (DISS) Serves as the initial point of contact for the installation’s visitors which may include foreign nationals, government agents, elective officials, media and Very Important Persons (VIP) Reports suspicious activities, unauthorized entry, fires, medical emergencies, criminal acts or other hazards Responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Incumbent must pass a pre-employment physical examination as well as an annual physical examination.
  • As a precondition and continuing condition of employment, the incumbent is required to submit to urinalysis testing under the Drug Abuse Testing Program IAW AR 600-85.
  • This position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization without seriously impairing the capability of the organization to function effectively; therefore the position is designated key.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • This position will require the incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a valid local driver’s license and a Government Operators License.
  • This position requires the incumbent to carry firearms or other weapons authorized for their specific jurisdictions and required to qualify with assigned weapons on a semi- annual basis, to demonstrate skill/proficiency in their use.
  • The incumbent is required to wear the DASG uniform IAW AR190-56 and maintain a high state of appearance and hygiene.
  • This position requires the incumbent will be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays on various shifts in accordance with assigned schedule.
  • Incumbent is required to work overtime as directed and is subject to recall for emergency overtime.
  • This position requires the incumbent to undergo training in cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid.
  • This position requires the incumbent to submit to and pass a Physical Agility Test annually IAW AR 190-56.
  • This position requires the incumbent must qualify and remain qualified with the Individual Reliability Program (AR 190-56).
  • This is a key designated position that cannot be vacated during a national emergency or disaster without seriously impairing the capability of the parent organization to function effectively.
