Duties

Serves as a supervisory surf-lifeguard, the incumbent plays a key role in the delivery of in-service training that includes instruction in surf-rescue techniques either with or without equipment, and the administration of urgent first-aid care and CPR; schedules, assigns, and monitors work for adherence to established performance standards; counsels subordinates in technical matters; prepares reports mandated by applicable guidelines, payroll etc. This position involves leading/supervising work concerned with protecting the public against preventable danger and drowning death in the waters officially designated for swimming at surf-beach seashore area. This work typically involves preventive surf-life guarding; rescuing, either individually or as a member of a team, persons in distress or in danger of drowning; administering urgent first-aid care and cardiopulmonary resuscitation; controlling usually large crowds; operating and maintaining rescue equipment; enforcing agency regulations; and performing and supervising other related work. You must be able to pass the surf-lifeguard test. Candidates must pass all parts of the test - includes the following: Swim 550 yards continuously in less than 10 minutes using a swimming stroke performed on the front only; and Run 1.25 miles continuously in less than 12 minutes. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Provide overall supervision for a staff of Recreation Assistants/Lifeguards, that may include subordinate Supervisory and/or Lead Recreation Assistants / Lifeguards who are responsible for patrolling and providing lifesaving services to the public at a pool or beach facility, perform the duties and responsibilities of a Recreation Assistants/Lifeguards, that includes patrolling and providing lifesaving services to the public at a pool or beach facility, develop and conduct lifeguard and lifesaving training for a staff of Recreation Assistants/Lifeguards, managing a pool or beach facility that includes a staff of lifeguards. You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of 1 full year of graduate education where it is DIRECTLY related to the work of the position. You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.
