As an Equipment Specialist you will serve as a Technical Specialist within the Facilities Management Division.Location of position:  Facilities Management Division San Francisco, CA or Los Angeles, CAThe Facilities Management Division is responsible for all types of mechanical systems, vertical transportation equipment (elevators, lifts, escalators, etc.) and associated equipment. We are currently filling one vacancy, but additional vacancies may be filled as needed.

Duties

Provides technical direction and coordination of elevator, escalator, dumbwaiters and maintenance activities and operations in Federal Buildings to Field Off ices,  , engineers, mechanical chiefs, architects, project managers and other technical experts. Provides trouble shooting procedures, solutions to equipment problems and system malfunctions. Conducts periodic inspections in accordance with national safety codes and ASME 17.1. Develops guidelines and makes recommendations for safety reporting, standards and implementation. Prepares, monitors, inspects and assists in the administration of a variety of contracts and scopes of work for elevators and maintenance. Prepares technical and contractual specifications for major and minor repair work; including systems operating modifications. Analyzes plans, drawings, specifications and project directives to ensure proposed designs for new construction and major repairs include economical effective maintenance and optimum performance on building systems and associated equipment. Inspects and conducts performance tests on equipment to insure contract conformance. Provides technical information to customers, stakeholders, contractors and senior management via presentations, reports and formally in writing. Researches, compiles and disseminates information concerning operational processes, policies, regulations, changes to equipment standards. Prepares and analyzes costs for new construction, repair and alteration projects or modernizations. When determining the independent government estimates (IGEs) and analyzing proposals, applies knowledge of equipment, supplies, budget, staffing  workload requirements. Issues reports on deficiencies after inspection and analysis of equipment, operations processes or mechanical issues.

Requirements

  • US Citizenship or National (Residents of American Samoa and Swains Island)
  • Meet all eligibility criteria within 30 days of the closing date
  • Meet time-in-grade within 30 days of the closing date, if applicable
  • Register with Selective Service if you are a male born after 12/31/1959

Qualifications

If you are a new federal employee, your starting salary will likely be set at the Step 1 of the grade for which you are selected.  To qualify, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level or higher in the Federal service. Specialized experience is work that has provided practical working knowledge of vertical transportation systems and industry practices including elevator safety and acceptance inspections, elevator code administration, written reports, specification writing, cost estimating, and maintenance management. Qualifying experience must reflect the ability to effectively administer a vertical transportation maintenance and inspection program.
