About the Position: The incumbent will perform receptionist, recordkeeping and miscellaneous clerical duties within a medical setting Facilities. The mission of CAL MED is to provide quality health care for all active duty service members and families assigned to the Presidio of Monterey. Advanced In-hire MAY be authorized. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

Greet visitors and/or patients to determine nature of visit and refer to appropriate area. Obtain/ identify information and determine the nature of the visit/call. Record and relay messages and/or redirect calls. Maintain and monitor patient appointment schedules for the clinic/practice. Type routine correspondence, progress reports memoranda and statistical reports using various automation systems and programs.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • May be required to work overtime, weekends, holidays and evenings.
  • May be required to rotate shifts if shortage in other areas of hospital operations.
  • This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the Education and or/Experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. GS-05 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing clerical or administrative support work but not limited to organizing patient records, receiving, relaying, answering patient related inquiries, scheduling medical appointments, and/or using office automation systems to schedule appointments utilizing an automated medical scheduling system and verifying patient's eligibility. OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. (Note: You must attach a copy of your Transcript). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your Transcript). This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
