This position is located in the Audiology Service at VA Ann Arbor Health Care System (VAAAHS). The Audiologist has administrative and supervisory responsibilities for the audiology clinics throughout VAAAHS. In addition to administrative and supervisory responsibilities, the audiologist will function as an independent staff audiologist at the full performance level. the audiologist is the Service Chief for the Audiology Service, and is a direct report to the facility Chief of Staff.
Duties
The Audiologist is a Service Chief for a service-level department in a large, complex, or multi-division facility. Incumbent has broad and overall responsibility for a service-level department, or its organizational equivalent in large, complex, or multi-division facilities.
The Audiology Service Chief is responsible for the daily management of staff and clinical activities in audiology clinics throughout the entire VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, including offsite locations such as Packard Road, Toledo, Jackson, Adrian, and Canton CBOC's within the VAAAHS; this will also include any future CBOC sites which might utilize Audiology staffing and services.
In carrying out the administrative, supervisory and educational duties the audiologist must demonstrate the ability to clearly communicate the goals and objectives for individual staff and for the service; to provide direction and oversight for an interdisciplinary team; to evaluate individual and group performance in order to accomplish program goals; and to serve as coach and mentor for the clinical team members.
In carrying out the clinical responsibilities the audiologist must demonstrate advanced knowledge in contemporary audiology practice.
The Audiologist will participate as a member of various leadership committees, as assigned, such as Chief of Staff Advisory, Clinical Executive Committee, etc. He/she is tasked with providing active leadership and decision making for the Service and the organization, is responsible for strategic planning, the budget process, and performance improvement initiatives.
The Audiologist develops and administers a formal, systematic performance plans for reviewing, appraising, and continuously improving each phase of clinical and administrative activity. He/she is responsible for assuring that services provided by this Service meet the standards set by accrediting agencies, including The Joint Commission, OIG, SOARS, etc. In conjunction with the Clinical Executive Committee, the Chief works to assure that any issues and deficiencies are corrected according to standards.

Qualifications
Basic Requirements:
a. Citizenship. Be a citizen of the United States (U.S.). Non-citizens may be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with 38 U.S.C. § 7407(a).
b. Education. Doctor of Audiology (AuD) from an audiology program recognized by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). The CAA is the only accreditation agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation to accredit entry-level audiology programs. HR office staff and management officials may verify the program accredited from CAA at www.caa.asha.org.
OR
(2) Other doctoral degree in hearing science or a directly related field from an institution accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the USDE.
NOTE: Effective January 1, 2007, the CAA in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology of ASHA accredits only doctoral degree or AuD programs in audiology.
c. Licensure. Individuals must hold a full, current and unrestricted license to practice audiology at the doctoral level in a United States state, territory, commonwealth or the District of Columbia.
d. Failure to Obtain Licensure. In all cases, the graduate audiologists must actively pursue obtaining the required licensure from the date of their appointment. HR office staff will provide unlicensed audiologists with written requirements to obtain licensure, the date by which the license must be acquired and the consequences for not becoming licensed by the deadline. Written notices must be provided prior to the entrance on duty date. Failure to obtain the required credentials by the prescribed date will result in termination of employment.
e. Loss of Credential. In collaboration with HR office staff, management officials must immediately relieve employees of the duties and responsibilities associated with the occupation who fail to maintain the required licensure, which may also result in separation from employment.
f. English Language Proficiency. Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. 7403(f).
Grade Determination GS-14
In addition to the basic requirements for employment, candidates must meet the following grade-determining criteria for appointments at grade levels specified.
Experience:
(1) At least three years of experience as a professional audiologist, with at least one year comparable to the next lower grade level, must fully meet the KSAs at that level.
(2) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs). In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
(a) Skill in promoting collaboration to accomplish goals.
(b) Skill in translating management goals and objectives into efficient service operations.
(c) Skill in balancing operational resources to ensure appropriate delivery of service operations.
(d) Ability to supervise a diverse staff.
(e) Ability to effectively interact and collaborate with local, VISN and/or national leadership.
(f) Ability to establish and monitor productivity standards, production and performance priorities to achieve management goals and objectives.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary. Some walking, standing, bending and carrying of light objects such as paper, books, etc., may be required. Computer work that requires long periods of continued data entry may cause eye strain or muscle strain from long periods of sitting. There may be occasional instances when the duties require pushing a patient in a wheelchair; there is no heavy lifting of patients nor transferring of patients.
