Duties
The incumbent will serve as a Lead Hydro-Meteorologist Technician (OPL). As a Lead Hydro-Meteorologist Technician (OPL) you will perform the following duties:
Issue weather, water, and climate information, including accurate and timely warnings and forecasts, to the public and other customers served within the Weather Forecast Office (WFO) area of responsibility.
Analyzes and evaluates local synoptic and mesoscale weather and hydrologic observations available from multiple observation sources at the WFO while on an operational shift.
Ensure the basic operating characteristics of NWS electronic and computer systems used in data acquisition, communications, information processing, and dissemination activities, including control procedures associated with the WSR-88D system.
Provide appropriate advice, trainings, guidance, explanations, weather briefings and answers to questions as requested by the public, the media, and other interested customers of weather, water, and climate products and services.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
To qualify for the GS-12:
Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following:
Using weather radar systems for data acquisition, information processing, or dissemination activities;
Analyzing and monitoring mesoscale weather and hydrologic observations;
Assessing weather situations and associated meteorological and hydrologic data to provide information, warnings and forecasts to the public and customers; and,
Assembling, monitoring, and maintaining weather instruments.
