This position is located in the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Office of Training.
This position(s) primary purpose is to support the is to serve as Staff Assistant to a front office, reporting to the Deputy Assistant Administrator and/or an Assistant Deputy Assistant Administrator.

As a your typical work assignments may include:
Serving as office manager for the office.
Planning and developing new methods for coordinating the administrative work of a complex organization with disparate organizational segments requiring complicated administrative controls to accomplish the work.
Working closely with the leadership in the planning, meeting goals and objectives, coordinating and organizing, recommends options during planning and policy formulation and leads and coordinates events, conferences, and meetings for support staff.
Attending meetings and conferences as required and requested, which are later summarized and distributed.
Advising supervisor of important office matters that arise.

You may qualify. at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in: 1) Scheduling meetings, preparing and distributing meeting materials, such as agendas and other supporting documentation; 2) Receiving and reviews incoming correspondence prepared for the signature and approval of senior management; 3) Tracking requests and communication to ensure timely and accurate responses; and, 4) Developing and maintaining a variety of hard copy files and records that involves the operations of the office, as well as computerized databases of key documents.
OR
Education: Have a master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LLB. or J.D., if related.

Combination of education and experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.). (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
You may qualify at the GS-11 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrate your ability in: 1) Tracking pending action items and confirming staff responsibilities and timelines for completion; 2) Planning and coordinating travel, accommodations and transport for senior officials and special guests; 3) Working closely with senior officials in management and meeting planning, coordinating policy activities, analyzing logistical issues and recommending alternatives; and, 4) Developing internal operating procedures to ensure efficiency and consistency with administrative and office procedures; 5) Conducting research on a variety of documents in order to gather, correlate, analyze, determine and recommend solutions to resolve internal management problems and to improve efficiency; 6) Assisting and advising staff on all procedural and administrative aspects of staff actions.

Education: Have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; OR (3) full academic years of graduate level education leading to such a degree; OR LL.M., if related.

Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-07. For a GS-11 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-9. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement.
