About the Position: The Chief, Army Museum Historic Materiel Division manages the Army Historical Artifact Collection in accordance with laws and regulations. Plans, executes, supervises and evaluates the management of all Army Historic materiel and associated historic support material. This position is responsible for ensuring the full accountability of Army Artifact Collection and ensuring the Army Museum enterprise remains audit ready.
Duties
Analyzes, evaluates, plans, organizes and directs all Division policies, procedures, activities, and operations to include formulation of personnel, budget, and contract requirements.
Coordinates each major performance element and standard with the employee's senior rater for concurrence.
Responsible for maintaining 100% accountability of the Army Artifact Collection across the Army Museum Enterprise.
Responsible for leading and managing reform to improve and improving the overall quality of historic collection of materiel within the Army Museum Enterprise and content of the Army Artifact Collection.
Manages the two Army Museum Support Centers, and host the Army Artist-in-Residence program.
Responsible for the overall collections management and audit readiness of the Army Artifact Collection.
Responsible for planning and reviewing system wide emergency response plans, and provides advice and guidance to directors, curators, museum specialists, and exhibit specialists Army-wide.
Requirements

- One-year supervisory probationary period may be required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.

Basic Requirement for Museum Curator:
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field such as Museum Studies or History.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
OR
Experience: Four years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four year course of study as shown in A above.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) performing the management of museum collections to include acquisition, disposition, and inventory accountability; 2.) executing museum resource management, both manpower and financial; 3.) composing policies and operational guidelines concerning museum management. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13).

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
