This is a Direct Hire Authority solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base and Major Range and Test Facilities Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as a Maintenance Mechanic for Pine Bluff Arsenal.

Duties

Repair trusses, installs structural and trim items by nailing, bolting, mortising, doweling and gluing. Perform a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds, related structures, fixtures, utilities, and industrial/production equipment. Operate equipment such as Telehandlers, Rough Terrain Forklifts, Articulating Boom Lifts and Excavators. Repair walls, fireplaces, and other structures with brick, hollow clay tiles, precast masonry panels, concrete block, and other masonry materials. Construct various shipping containers, boxes, and packaging for exportation of products to Army standard DoDM4140.65. Use templates, jigs, blueprints and other guides to repair, modify or fabricate metal items for all types of equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
  • This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random drug testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 5% of the time.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Fork Lift License.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain an asbestos certification card for the removal and encapsulation of asbestos.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain certification for equipment operation.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain Wood Packaging Materials certification in accordance with DoDM4140.65.
  • Must be able to work around hazardous materials.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

THIS POSITION REQUIRES YOU TO MEET THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS. YOUR RESUME MUST SHOW EXPERIENCE IN THE FOLLOWING; Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic ~ without more than normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Journeyman level skill in a variety of trades such as masonry, carpentry, roofing, concrete and cement finishing, and welding to perform duties involved in the construction, maintenance, repair. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Requires considerable standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, and walking. Works on ladders and scaffolds which requires working overhead or in stretched, cramped, or awkward positions. Arm movement is considerable. Masonry and cement finishing work requires frequent lifting and carrying items that weigh about 50 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is done inside and outside. Carpenter is subject to cuts from hand and powered tools and danger from flying splinters and chips. In masonry and cement finishing work, employee is exposed to dust and dirt when mixing cement and mortar. The work requires moderate to strenuous physical effort and long periods of walking, standing, climbing, and bending. Subject to danger of falling when working from ladders and scaffolds.
