This position is part of the Office of Science - Headquarters, Department of Energy. As a Physicist, you will conceive, justify, plan, initiate, manage, and coordinate all aspects of a broad range of experimental nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics research that serves the mission of the Office.

Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
In either A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, candidates must also possess the specialized experience listed below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-14) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting ALL of the following:
Determining the direction of the nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics aspect of a research program.
Reviewing reports or studies prepared by other organizations to determine their impact on nuclear structure and nuclear astrophysics research.
Participating in the development, coordination, or organization of funding allocations for assigned programs.

Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
