About the Position: The incumbent will be technically and administratively responsible for the law enforcement operations performing a wide range of managerial tasks in planning, managing, directing and evaluating law enforcement operations with full authority to make decisions and commit to a course of action.
Duties
Develop law enforcement programs and operating plans for the installation and is responsible for planning, supervising, and managing the operations of the division.
Perform liaison with other military and civilian law enforcement agencies within the area to discuss problems, inter-agency support, future plans and needs, and exchange of information.
Plan for current and long-range operations based on workload trends and projected requirements.
Advise top-level installation managers on police department issues impacting them and develops acceptable solutions to problems.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Must obtain and maintain a valid stateside driver's license.
- Must obtain and maintain a Secret level security clearance.
- This position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment/Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- Must comply with Drug Abuse Testing Program requirements.
- Be able to wear chemical protection masks, gloves, and other associated equipment.
- Maintain minimum standards as outlined in AR 190-56 and/or local policy.
- Pass a pre-employment and annual medical examination (physical, emotional and mental stability, etc.).
- Must be qualified and certified in the use of aerosol irritants.
- Must successfully complete law enforcement training.
- Must wear prescribed uniform and/or protective clothing.
- Must be certified to use police weapons, equipment, cameras, crime scene evidence collecting equipment and automated police information retrieval systems.
- Pass pre-screening and periodic physical agility test requirements.
- May be required to work evenings, nights, weekends, holidays and in other situations. Overtime may be required.
- Must be proficient in the use of firearms, passing initial qualifications and must qualify annually thereafter.
- Subject to possible civil action due to improper exercises of authority or injudicious use of force in the apprehension/detention of persons.
- Must obtain and maintain current CPR certification and First Aid training.
- Must pass periodic physical agility test requirements.
- Designated Mission Essential position.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes overseeing law enforcement operations in the prevention, detection, and reporting of crimes AND developing plans for law enforcement operations to safeguard the public and mitigate criminal activity.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
