About the Position: This position is located in the Receipts & Issues Division of the Letterkenny Munitions Center at Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

Duties

Operate various makes, types, and sizes of container handling equipment capable of lifting up to 99,000 pounds as high as 48 feet to perform the loading, unloading, moving, and lifting of heavy containers. Load, unload, lift, and move Twenty Foot Equivalent Unit (TEU) and Forty Foot Equivalent Unit (FEU) containers loaded with ammunition, explosives, and components including guided missiles, bombs, high explosives, and ammunition components. Place containers on rail cars, trucks trailers, and staging areas. Inspect containers for serviceability upon receipt and after maintenance. Operate truck tractors with semi-trailer, lift trailers, and vans to haul a variety of high explosives, munitions, and components, as well as inert items from pick-up point to destination site. Operate electric and gasoline powered forklifts capable of lifting up to 36,000 pounds to load and unload items from trucks, rail cars, containers, and ammunition magazines. Perform operator/preventive maintenance on assigned vehicles and equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Applicant must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for this position.
  • This position is subject to pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter in compliance with the Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Program.
  • The applicant must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent periodic medical examinations in accordance with DoD 6055-5-M. Applicant must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
  • A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Hazardous Materials (HAZMAT) endorsement is required within 120 days of appointment. A forklift certification for up to 36K lbs lift capacity is required within 120 days of appointment.
  • Must meet the certification requirements of AMC-R 350-4, Training and Certification Program for Personnel Working in Ammunition Operations within one year of appointment.
  • Must be cleared in accordance with the requirements of AR 190-11, Physical Security of Arms, Ammunition, and Explosives.

Work involves continuous climbing, reaching, bending, and twisting of body. Requires lifting, positioning, and carrying items up to 45 pounds while loading or unloading cargo. May occasionally lift heavier items with assistance. Moderate physical effort is required to make truck-tractor and semi-trailer connections. There is continuous physical activity in reaching, bending, turning, or moving feet and legs to manipulate controls. Subject to cuts, scratches, and bruises from loading or unloading vehicles. Subject to possible serious injury resulting from traffic accidents. Is required to work on concrete floors. Work is performed where there is unpleasant dust, dirt, fumes, and noise from truck operations. May wear masks, gloves, goggles, and rubber boots as appropriate. Working Conditions: Equipment is operated outside during periods of extreme heat and cold from a cab that is enclosed. Operator is subject to noise, dirt, dust, and fumes, and is exposed to danger from moving machinery and the overturning of the container handler. Accomplishment of duties requires the wearing of protective clothing such as safety shoes, glasses, coveralls, etc. There is chance of injuries ranging from loss of life to burns, cuts, bruises, strains, and nausea.

Education
