Duties

At the full performance level, this position includes the following duties. Serve as a Hydrographic/Topographic Survey Expert on hardware and software in the field of advanced bathymetric/topographic data collection Conduct bathymetric data collection and processing necessary for the production of maps, charts, dredging contracts, and other related products. Process hydrographic/topographic survey data to establish or compute parameters for use in making engineering computations. Collects and edits multibeam, Light Intensity Distance and Ranging (LIDAR), Rheotune, Side Scan and Sub-Bottom Profiler data to assure accuracy by performing appropriate overlap checks and comparisons with single beam data and/or multibeam data. Perform surveys and reviews shoaling and/or strike patterns using multibeam technology. Interacts with the client and technical experts in the field of bathymetry to assure that technology is applied in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Obtain and maintain a state issued driver's license..
  • Obtain and maintain a CDL within 6 months of appointment.
  • This position has a mandatory drug testing requirement in accordance with Army Regulations (AR) 600-85.
  • Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) is 75% of the time.
  • This position requires employee to wear safety equipment.
  • This position requires employee obtain and maintain a USACE small boat operator license within 6 months of appointment.
  • Pre- employment physical is required.
  • This position meets the criteria for random drug and alcohol testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
  • Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for Certain Civilian Positions Identified Safety-Sensitive Under the DOT, Federal Highway Administration Rules on Drug and Alcohol Testing.

Qualifications

This position is being recruited under the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Minimum Qualifications for the GS-802-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: Selecting survey equipment to accomplish an assignment, identifying the correct procedure for processing different types of surveys; ORusing various types of CAD or related, or interpreting plans and specifications. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience for the GS-802-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: Conducting surveys using GPS equipment, level and rods, total stations, and Light Intensity Distance and Ranging (LIDAR); OR calculate coordinates and bearings from data or references for project site layout, location, and quantity calculations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Specialized Experience for the GS-802-07: One year of specialized experience which includes: Locating objects by sounding with fathometer, lead-line, multi-transducer, or multibeam systems to determine depth of water over and around objects; OR collect geospatial data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping products as well as the conversion of geographic data from and to various state plane coordinate systems in accordance with supervisory oversight using standard guidelines. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). Specialized Experience for the GS-802-08: One year of specialized experience which includes: Locating objects by sounding with fathometer, lead-line, multi-transducer, or multibeam systems to determine depth of water over and around objects; OR skill in collection of geospatial data for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and mapping products as well as the conversion of geographic data from and to various state plane coordinate systems without regular supervisory input. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
