Duties

You will participate in Environmental Quality Assessments (EQA) as an assistant to the specialist or at times independently and has a role in the spill response team. You will support higher graded employees in the coordination, collection, transport, consolidation, and proper storage of hazardous waste (HW) and materials. You will maintain inventory records, inspection logs, manifests, waste product questionnaire files and laboratory analysis records in accordance with federal, state and local laws and regulations. You will respond to and assist with hazardous waste spills. You will maintain an adequate inventory of all spill supplies, equipment, and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in a manner to be ready for an emergency event.

Requirements

  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

This job has a screen-out element which will be used to determine minimum eligibility for this job. The Screen-out Element for this position is: The ability to do the work of a Hazardous Waste Disposer without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks including: 1) Assisting in separating, combining and transporting hazardous chemicals and substances; 2) Utilizing safe practices in storing, shipping, and labeling hazardous waste; 3) Operating equipment such as tugs, forklifts, and motor vehicles used to load and transport hazardous waste; 4) Interpreting information in Safety Data Sheets (SDS) in order to safely handle chemical substances or products; and 5) Using computers to access databases to develop spreadsheets, perform word processing, and communicate by electronic email.
