You will serve as a Supervisory Recreation Specialist of NAVWPNSTA.

Duties

You instruct fitness personnel in the use of fitness equipment to include resistance machines, computerized cardiovascular equipment, and free weights. You will assist recreation programs in acquiring fitness and recreation equipment using the proper transfer documents to meet needs. You will develop performance plans for employees to set goals and expectations. You will submit program justification for funding, personnel, facilities, supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Supervisors in the executive branch have a heightened personal responsibility for advancing government ethics. You will be required to review the 14 General Principles of Ethical Conduct at 5 CFR 2635.101.
  • Must possess and maintain at all times a certified instructor/Trainer certificate.
  • Must possess and maintain at all times a CPR Instructor certificate and first aid instructor certificate.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Instructing using a wide range of fitness equipment, including resistance and/or selected machines, computerized cardiovascular equipment and free weights; Ensuring all customers are briefed on the rules and regulations of the fitness centers and/or reinforces as necessary; Conducting a variety of fitness classes, keeping up to date on the latest techniques and developments Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=List-by-Occupational-Series Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Have successfully completed one full year of graduate level education with a major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. OR

Have successfully completed a bachelor's degree with superior academic achievement with a major study in general recreation, or one of the appropriate fields of recreation such as outdoor recreation; recreation and parks leadership; wild land recreation management; natural resources recreation; youth recreation; public, urban, or community recreation; special populations recreation (e.g., senior citizens, institutional, etc.); or physical education. OR

Have a combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
