You will serve as a PACKER ofNAVSUP FLT LOGISTICS CNTR SAN DIEGO.

Duties

You will verify items to be packages against shipping documentation and/or invoice to ensure correct identification and condition. You will decide upon appropriate method of packing various items based on governing regulations including proper packaging of hazardous materials (HM). You will pack materials and equipment in standard containers utilizing cardboard boxes, applicable wrapping, and bracing (if needed) for heavier items. You will perform loading of commercial conveyances, ensuring bracing and shoring of loaded material as required. You will ensure compliance with applicable regulations when preparing classified material for shipment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current Forklift Operator certification.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain the department of transportation, transportation of hazardous material certification.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION An example of the screen-out element for this position is: I have the ability to perform the full range Packer tasks including, experience using prescribed containers, protective devices, and cushioning; using prescribed methods and techniques for standard and non-standard packaging and preservation; complying with local guidance to address factors such as weight type, fragility, or mode of shipment; processing standard documentation; understanding special handling labels, and shipping codes; operating forklifts, small trucks and other material handling equipment; packing materials for shipment by air, water, or ground transportation; using tools and machines common to packing; using bar code scanners or computerized systems such as Navy Enterprise Resource Planning (NERP). I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
