You will serve as a GENERAL ENGINEER in the NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER AIRCRAFT DIVISION SE & ALRE GROUP, AIR/SHIP INTIGRATION BRANCH (BL32200) of NAVAIRWARCENADLKE of NAVAIRWARCENADLKE.

Duties

You will support aircraft weapon system design by facilitating the integration of aviation and shipboard systems, including ensuring the efficient interrelationship of subsystems; and the systems engineering process. You will apply management principles, capabilities, limitations, and applications of computer science as related to the development of simulation models that are employed in the evaluation of operational effectiveness of aircraft/ship weapon systems. You will be responsible for evaluation of sortie generation rate (SGR) capabilities of aircraft carriers as relates to the aircraft/ship turnaround cycle functional area. You will be familiar in all aspects of aircraft size and space allocation, the operational movement/flow of embarked aircraft, and the ship integration design requirements of aviation systems, subsystems, and support equipment. You will develop sortie generation rate simulations, replicate, and evaluate various shipboard operational concepts, flight/hangar deck layouts scenarios, through the development of software code using the C++ software language.

  • This position is covered under the Defense Acquisition Workforce Improvement Act (DAWIA). Certification in the Acquisition Functional Area and category assigned to the position is required within established category timeframes.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Provide technical expertise in aviation ship integration, to include the operational impact of the area of aircraft carrier flight and hangar decks, aircraft size and operational logistics footprint space allocation, aircraft turnaround cycle procedures, mission performance metrics related to the shipboard operational environment, and ship design requirements related to the integration and interoperability of aircraft launch/recovery equipment (ALRE) and support equipment (SE); Conduct investigations and feasibility studies to determine the practicality and adaptability of alternative designs, technical approaches, and concepts of operation to predict their impacts on operational effectiveness, system of systems performance, cost, fleet priorities, and schedule; Coordinate modeling and simulation software development activities and establish criteria with other agencies to ensure alignment with program goals, the test and evaluation master plan (TEMP), and customer requirements. Review proposals, operational concepts, and whole ship/shipboard system specifications to determine the integration risks, interoperability potential, and feasibility of aviation system design or design modification offered for consideration. Education

Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:

Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
