The position is located in the Division of Nursing Services, Emergency Department at the Gallup Indian Medical Center (GIMC), Gallup, NM. This position is responsible for supervision, managing, directing, coordinating, leadership and evaluating the provision of nursing care provided in the Emergency Department. The emergency room operates 24 hours a day with rotating shifts. The position reports to the Outpatient Assistant Chief Nurse Executive.

Duties

NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Supervision of staff is accomplished by planning, directing, leadership, guidance and performance evaluation of staff to ensure quality of safe patient care. Includes compliance with standards of care, patient safety, and compliance with other applicable accreditation standards. Plans and adjusts work assignments of operations to meet organizational objectives, priorities, deadlines, and standards of care. Performs nursing care duties as needed to maintain nursing skills and clinical competence and expertise in specialty area and cover nursing shortages. Closely observes patient for conditions, which may require emergency measures. Organizes, assigns, reviews work, administers personnel matters and manages a budget for ER. Implements personnel management procedures, training and career development plans, grievance procedures, equipment requirements, safety practices as well as specific orientation. Communicates and participates in a multidisciplinary Quality Improvement program for the unit. Applies and implements Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) program and guidelines.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. GS-12 (or equivalent) Grade Level Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one year or more full years of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-11 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Experience with implementation and oversight of quality nursing care, and the ability to perform the full spectrum of supervisory personnel management. Enforces all appropriate standards including but not limited to those of the Joint Commission, Center for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) conditions of participation. Assurance that patient's needs are adequately met and nursing services are rendered in accordance with current standards for nursing practice. Collaborates with Chief Nurse Executive in the nursing documentation analysis, evaluation and program planning including development of staff education and skills competence activities.
