This position is located in the Division of Nursing Services: Nursing Education Branch of Gallup Indian Medical Center, Gallup, NM. This position will provide a structured clinical coach preceptor program to support delivery of orientation that ensures new nurses receive adequate preparation to function independently and to facilitate their transition to assigned departments/units.

Duties

NOTE: Applicants must apply separately for each announcement in order to be considered.** Provides guidance to employees, nurses and health care providers to accomplish individual and team tasks Coordinate admissions and assignments. Lead the team in identifying, distributing and balancing work loads and tasks with established work flow to ensure each employee has an integral role. Reports to Supervisory Nurse periodically on team and individual work accomplishment, problems and progress. Provides nursing care within Medical/Surgical Nursing scope of Practice. Applies the nursing process to patients of all ages requiring stabilization and/or resuscitation for a variety of illnesses and injuries. Consults with attending physicians and other staff members to determine and evaluate the kind of health and physical care needed. Administers therapeutic measures as prescribed by the physician. Participate in the development, updating, and evaluation of standards of care and quality improvement monitoring. Participates and develops Quality Improvements projects for the department and participates in hospital quality improvement program. Ensures patient education occurs during the shift. Ensures correct narcotic count at the end of the shift. Reviews and revises nursing care plans. Serves as a resource person, provides guidance and leadership to staff. Reviews patient's chart and ensures the staff makes legible, accurate and complete nursing entries in the patient chart for all nursing care given by utilizing the Electronic Health Record (EHR). Provide assistance in facility emergent situation, delegating ICU staff to help as needed. Participate in the preceptorship program

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S): Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing. A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education , Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-10 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing. Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level. Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-09 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: conducting in-service training to health care workers on topics, such as, performance improvement, policies and procedures, have performed needs of analysis to plan and develop a nursing education program, evaluating education as it relates to preceptorship and have worked with hospital regulatory agencies. Time In Grade Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP). You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days of the closing date of the announcement.
