The Senior Social Worker independently provides psychosocial assessment, therapy, and case management services related to mental health needs at an advanced practice level to eligible veterans and their family members. Services provided relate to psychosocial implications of psychiatric disorders, homelessness, substance abuse, OEF/OIF issues, TBI, medical treatment, post hospital care and rehabilitation. The CBOC's cover a wide catchment area; often with few resources. This requires a high degree of clinical skill and creative problem solving. The Senior Worker must work closely with community agencies and CBOC staff to meet all the needs of the Veterans and their families. Major Duties: Leads the Behavioral Health Interdisciplinary (BHIP) Team. Assists with measures and monitors. Assists CBOC Supervisor roll out new initiatives/policies. Leads system redesign and LEAN projects. Assesses and treats complicated psychosocial problems in collaboration with the interdisciplinary treatment team. The Senior Worker will address home care needs, homelessness, and transition across levels and sites of care. Advanced Social Work care management practice skills, which includes psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment which is focused on helping Veterans and their families maximize treatment potential and achieve more satisfying and productive emotional and social functioning. Provides social work psychosocial assessment, diagnosis, and treatment in collaboration with interdisciplinary team members to develop a care management plan and psychosocial interventions. Performs specialized treatment for complex mental health needs and is able to assess, utilize differential diagnosis and provide appropriate treatment modalities of individual, group, marital and family therapy services Develops crisis management plans for in-patient psychiatric admissions or appropriate safety plans for deflections. Provides case management and supportive services to families as indicated. Must be sensitive to the ethnic and cultural diversity and age-specific challenges of the Veteran population served and adjusts intervention and treatment plans as appropriate. Networks with and utilizes appropriate community resources. Serves as an advocate for Veterans and their families, helping them access needed services at the facility, at other VA facilities, and in their local communities. Travel to other CBOC locations may be required as part of providing social work care management services. Such travel requires the Senior Worker to function without immediate supervision or consultation. Participates in the orientation, training, and teaching of social work graduate students and other trainees and staff. Qualifications

Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: Education: Must have a Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the school of social work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) Licensure: Must be licensed or certified by a state at the advanced practice level at the GS-12 grade level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). IN ADDITION TO THE BASIC REQUIREMENTS YOU MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING GRADE REQUIREMENTS: GS-12 Grade level: Experience: The candidate must have at least two years of experience post advanced practice clinical licensure and should be in a specialized area of social work practice of which, one year must be equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Senior social workers have experience that demonstrates possession of advanced practice skills and judgment. Senior social workers are experts in their specialized area of practice. Senior social workers may have certification or other post-masters training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship or equivalent supervised professional experience in a specialty. AND Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, candidates must demonstrate all of the following KSAs: Skill in a range of specialized interventions and treatment modalities used in specialty treatment programs or with special patient populations. This includes individual, group, and/or family counseling or psychotherapy and advanced level psychosocial and/or case management. Ability to incorporate complex multiple causation in differential diagnosis and treatment within approved clinical privileges or scope of practice. Knowledge in developing and implementing methods for measuring effectiveness of social work practice and services in the specialty area, utilizing outcome evaluations to improve treatment services and to design system changes. Ability to provide specialized consultation to colleagues and students on the psychosocial treatment of patients in the service delivery area, as well as role modeling effective social work practice skills. Ability to expand clinical knowledge in the social work profession, and to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines pertaining to the service delivery area.
