Carpentry Supervisor position is located in Carpentry/Masonry/Locksmith Unit in the Engineering Service, Manhattan VA Medical Center. Primarily responsible for supervising workers, in accomplishing trades and labor work operations in a segment of an organization, a group or work shift.
Duties
Carpentry Supervisor is responsible for the operation and supervision of the carpenter shop, maintenance and repair of a wide variety of infrastructure systems which serve the entire Medical Center and SCBOC.
Infrastructure systems includes, but is not limited to carpentry, locks, door's hardware, fire and smoke barrier doors, windows, masonry, walls, flooring, ceiling, roofs, light pulps, light switches, light outlets, and cove base.
In addition, they are also responsible for coordinating and managing in house construction projects. Oversee maintenance, repair and installations of carpentry millwork, suspended ceiling systems, masonry walls, sheet rock walls, cover base, doors, windows, locks, doors hardware, locking mechanisms, tile flooring, ceramic flooring, carpeting, fire proffering, stairs, concrete work, taping, compounding, and roofing systems. In addition, the Carpenter Supervisor is administratively responsible for all aspects of the Carpentry/Masonry/Locksmith Unit, including employee performance, training, and work assignments, adverse actions, awards and other personnel issues associated at the first level of supervision.
Works under the supervision of the higher-grade supervisor, who issues work orders and priorities.
Decisions and judgments are made by incumbent on all routine work.
Keeps higher level supervisor informed of progress, unforeseen difficulties, materials required, or of work to be done by other trades.
Must make on the spot judgments or decisions in both routine work and emergencies. Works with considerable independence after job has been explained to him or blueprints sketches, etc. have been given to him.
Deviates from instructions if job situation warrants it, and work conforms to Code and to appearance desired upon completion.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: 8am-4:30pm, Monday -Friday

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Working Conditions: Working Conditions: Works under many and varied types of conditions, inside and outside, in cold and hot areas, in poorly ventilated areas, in dusty and greasy areas, on ladders, platforms, and catwalks. Will work in contagious disease areas, etc.
Physical Working Conditions: Considerable walking, stooping, bending, crawling, standing and climbing is required in performance of duties. Incumbent is to lift/carry moderately heavy loads of 40-80 pounds. Incumbent works from ladders, scaffolds, staging, roofs/parapets, as well as working in confined spaces
