This job opportunity is for an SUPERVISORY AIRCRAFT FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, position description D0611000, within AASF of the New Jersey Army National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, Excepted Service position.
The purpose of the position is to manage the Operations and Training Section of the AASF and to perform flight instructor duties.
Duties
As an SUPERVISORY AIRCRAFT FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR, GS-2181-13, you will:
Direct and coordinate all light operations and training activities at the installation and supervises the AASF Flight Operations Section.
Plan and assign work to be accomplished by 3-12 subordinates in grades through GS-13.
Identify developmental and training needs of employees and provides or obtains training.
Plan, establish and update the standing operating procedures required for the safe and efficient operation of aircraft and transient aircraft.
Instruct and evaluate pilots in operating light or heavy, fixed or rotary wing aircraft.
Train and evaluate pilots in basic or advanced instrument flight procedures characterized by a substantial degree of hazard and using the technique of operating an aircraft through reference to instruments as well as visual reference to the terrain and horizon.
Develop POI's for proper utilization of aviators and aerial observer training requirements.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE:
Must have the following General Experience(s);
Understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts
One year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank)
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:
36 months of experience in the following;
Piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft;
Fixed-wing
Rotary
Remotely piloted aircraft
Training and instructing others in the piloting of a specified main-frame military aircraft
Supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings
Traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed
Planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace
Conducting particular missions and flying specific main-frame aircraft in combat tactics
Flying in mountainous terrain
Performing tactical remote site evaluations
Performing landings on remote sites
Provide ground and flight training
Conducting night-vision operations or instructions
Must have two years of experience in one of the following programs;
Civilian aviation program
Military service aviation program (active duty or reserve components)
Army National Guard Aviation Support facility
Air National Guard Wing/ Operations Group
REQUIRED FLYING HOURS:
1200 hours total military fixed wing flying time
600 hours total KC-135 flying time
Education
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university
- A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum
- Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from an accredited civilian aviation program OR must have aviation certification from accredited military aviation school.
