You will serve as a ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION SPECIALIST in the ENVIRONMENTAL DIVISION of NAV FACILITIES ENGINEERING COMMAND SE,Public Works Department, Meridian MS.

Duties

You will serve as point of contact for environmental regulatory visits and inspections of' assigned area or responsibility. You will administer and coordinate site Environmental Protection Programs. You will initiate and perform studies to determine the extent that Navy operations may impact the quality of the environment. You will keep abreast of new/proposed developments in the field or environmental protection by conducting research literature in the field to include regulatory/legislative issuances. You will respond to and oversee spill response team actions. You will provide advisory services for senior management, supervisors, staff and operating officials on matters concerning environmental compliance and prevention programs.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to complete ethics orientation within three months of appointment and submit a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450, within 30 days of appointment.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1)Develop environmental program requirements to verify an installation or organization remains compliant with local, state, and federal regulations. 2)Evaluate requirements of hazardous waste, hazardous materials, spill prevention, spill response, or other programs for compliance with environmental laws and regulations 3) Monitor waste and material management processes to ensure compliance with environmental protection regulations. 4)Hazardous Waste Material 5) Evaluate new or revised environmental regulatory requirements to develop proposed instructions or procedures for local implementation. 6)Advise on matters related to hazardous waste treatment. 7)Advise senior management officials and staff on environmental compliance with spill response and petroleum oily liquid storage. 8)Assess hazardous spill severity to decide the level of environmental response 9) Coordinate on-scene spill containment or cleanup of hazardous materials and waste. **NOTE: Your experience must be fully supported in your resume.** Additional qualification information can be found from the following Office of Personnel Management web site: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/#url=List-by-Occupational-Series Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
OR
an LL.M., if related
OR
A combination of experience and graduate education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
