Duties

You will schedule and assist with load tests and related actions necessary to recommend certification or acceptance of weight handling equipment for shore bases activities, and ships. You will assist all personnel and equipment in the test area are under the direct control of a higher-level employee during the load test. You will identify all load bearing, load controlling discrepancies and corrective action and will document all findings, recommendations, and operational limitations. You will assist in calculation test loads and load charts when none are available or when existing charts are found to be in error.

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Must be certifiable as a Certified Load Test Director per NAVFAC P307, by attending/passing a 40-hour NAVFAC P-307 Load Test Directors course.
  • Must be certifiable as a Crane Mechanic, Crane Electrician and Crane Mechanical/Electrical Inspector per NAVFAC P-307 and a Crane Trackage Inspector per NAVFAC 11230.lD
  • This is maybe considered a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Identifying deficiencies in conditions and operations of Weight Handling Equipment, (2) Determining when operation, maintenance, repair, or alteration work falls outside of the design parameters for the equipment, (3) Utilizing specific working knowledge of the documentation requirements for Weight Handling Equipment (e.g.; rigging, all types of cranes, forklifts, and unregulated lifting devices). Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

master's or equivalent graduate degree.

2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree.

LL.B. or J.D., if related
