This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Major Range Test Facility Base to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: This position is located US ARMY AVIATION & MISSILE COMMAND, TMDE SUPPORT ACTIVITY, REGION 1 ABERDEEN PROVING GROUND.

Duties

Responsible for the safety of all personnel who visit or work in areas of potential radiation exposure and has authority to halt work when the potential for radiological hazard exists. Responbislbe for monitoring operations during use of all radioactive calibration sources, assures that radiation monitors are certified and functioning properly, and determines when workers may enter the radiation laboratory. Develops and implements radiation safety policies and procedures for all TSC radiation sources to minimize exposures. Designs radiation monitoring and sampling plans and utilizes air samplers and flow proportional counting equipment for measurement of alpha, beta, gamma and x-ray radiations. Evaluates these measurements to identify hazards.. Utilizes measurement standards and artifacts to generate or realize a physical quantity, e.g., ionizing radiation, with specified parameters, e.g., intensity, Rems per hour.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) providing calibrating (RADIAC) radiation, detection, indication AND/OR (2) computing equipment and utilizing equipment in radiation producing facilities. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
