Army Materiel Command (AMC) is the Army's primary logistics and sustainment command, responsible for managing the global supply chain and ensuring installation and materiel readiness across the Total Force.

Duties

Exercise supervisory responsibility for control over the work operations involving Cooks and Food Service Workers. Determine base subsistence requirements on the estimated number of persons to be served each meal by considering inventory on hand, items on requisition, holidays, pass policy, day of the week, time of the month, and historical headcount. Responsible for food preparation and holding standards in accordance with Tri-Service Food Code (TB MED 530) and the Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) steps. Assign work and provide technical direction on a daily basis. Maintain daily inventory and kitchen requisition usages. Responsible for reviewing and completing personnel actions, performance appraisals and accounting for timesheets. Plan the use of workers, equipment, facilities, materials, tools, and supplies. Adhere to work priorities, project schedules, resources, and detailed work plans. Recommend changes on a daily bases to schedules, priorities, and work sequences, and make deviations in procedures or redirect resources to overcome problems such as equipment failures, lack of needed supplies, or unplanned absences. Inspect on a daily bases completed work for quality and/or work order requirements. Ensure safety and housekeeping practices are observed.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination and periodic physical examinations.
  • Must work shift schedules that include early mornings, late nights, week-ends, and holidays.
  • This is an inclement weather essential position, and the incumbent must report to work and/or remain in the position in bad weather, natural disasters, or other crisis.
  • Must be able to lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted, and lift and carry items weighing over 40 pounds with assistance.
  • Must wear safety gear.
  • Must wear a uniform.
  • A one year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless you have previously completed this requirement.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless you have previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Employee is exposed to extreme heat and extreme cold temperatures,must stand on tile floor, subject to burns, cuts and other injuries from hand tools or powerequipment. Required to work at any Cadet Mess facility including off post camps. The employee isrequired to wear protective shoes, appropriate hearing protection, and gloves or other safety andfood handling items required by food handling guides.
