About the Position: This position is physically located at the SLU Family Medicine Residency Clinic and assigned to the 375th Medical Group at Scott Air Force Base, IL. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Salary negotiation may be available for those candidates who are new to Federal service. Non-Federal work experience may be creditable for leave purposes.

Duties

Coordinate patient scheduling activities of the medical facility to ensure a smooth flow of the daily services. Resolve problems that arise from late appointments, emergencies, or walk-ins that could delay scheduled patients being seen in a timely manner. Answer questions and assist patients and visitors that cannot be satisfied by less experienced employees. Perform maintenance of medical records and review maintenance of medical records to ensure they are maintained in accordance with Air Force regulations/instructions and other established guidelines. Extract medical information from patients’ records as requested/needed by the medical staff. Perform a variety of administrative duties in support of the Graduate Medical Education Clinic.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
• Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
• Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Basic Requirements for Medical Support Assistant (Office Automation): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing customer service functions in a medical facility setting; scheduling medical appointments; and maintaining medical charts, files or records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four years of education above the high school level obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. AND Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors.
