About the Position: This position is located at U.S. Army Sustainment Command, Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Maintenance Division at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.

Duties

Plan and schedule work assignments on a long-range basis for accomplishment by the units supervised within schedules and priorities established by higher level management. Act on personnel problems referred by management and/or employees and serves as a management representative at hearings, meetings, and negotiations involving labor-management relations. Assign and explain work requirements to subordinate employees, sets deadlines and sequence of operations. Review and analyze production, cost, and personnel utilization records to evaluate progress of work and to control or reduce costs; studies continuing problems; and takes or recommends necessary corrective actions. Prepare operating instructions and work schedules; develops quality and quantity standards; spot-checks work operations; and reviews completed work and inspection reports to assure that production and quality standards are met. Utilize Logistical Information System (LIS) of record and the Global Combat Support System – Army (GCSS-Army) to monitor and manage workload requirements. Provide information and advice to higher level on matters as ability to accomplish work assignments as schedules, budget estimates, changes in production techniques and standards, rearrangement of machinery, or other changes in facilities. Promote and administer a variety of management programs for the units supervised, such as safety, cost reduction, incentive awards, beneficial suggestions and quality assurance within policies established by higher authority. Direct the branches safety and HAZMAT/HAZWASTE/HAZCOM management program to ensure compliance with established federal, state and installation regulatory requirements. Organize, coordinate, and direct the work activities and personnel supervised.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position is supervisory as defined by the Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) General Schedule Supervisory Guide (GSSG). A one-year probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 (NACI) background investigation.
  • Incumbent required to successfully pass a pre-appointment and annual physicals thereafter.
  • Incumbent may be expected to travel up to 5% for this position.

I have the ability to perform common Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic Supervisor tasks: take responsibility for getting work accomplished, maintain employee training records, recommend improvements to work practices and procedures, report work and employee issues to higher supervisor; guide colleagues on projects, ensure proper equipment is being used for required projects, lead one or two colleagues while performing Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic work assignments in predictable work environments. I can inspect and repair a variety of heavy mobile equipment and powered support systems. I work under close supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who reviews my work for completion. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
