This vacancy is for a Special Census Office Supervisor position for the US. Census Bureau, Chicago Regional Office. located in one of the Special Census Offices (SCO).
You MUST reside in one of the following counties by the time of hire to be considered for employment:

Polk County, IA
Duties
Manages all administrative aspects of the office, including office start-up, setup, quality control, and final closing.
Supervises and provides administrative and technical guidance to a subordinate staff.
Directs the phases of the field activities, including data collection.
Develops strategies and plans to meet all budget, time and quality goals.
Requirements
- You MUST reside in one of the following counties by the time of hire to be considered for employment:
Warren County, IA; or Dallas County, IA; or Polk County, IA.
- U.S. citizen.
- Suitable for Federal employment.
- Registered for Selective Service if applicable. (www.sss.gov)
- This is a Temporary Appointment; initial appointment is not to exceed 1 year. This appointment may be extended an additional year(s) at management’s discretion.
- Relocation expenses will not be paid.
- This position may be ELIGIBLE for telework; additional criteria will be required (e.g., supervisory approval).
- The work schedule for this position is Mixed Tour. With a Mixed Tour work schedule, an employee may be changed between full-time, part-time and intermittent work schedules to accommodate fluctuating workloads and is subject to a signed agreement.

Specialized Experience:
For the GS-09, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service.
Experience for this position includes supervising, training and delegating work to subordinates; overseeing and providing guidance directly to staff; working in a team environment to negotiate with others in order to secure support from multiple businesses and organizations; communicating with diverse populations; setting priorities; developing, monitoring, and/or analyzing detailed program/project requirements and implementation schedules; reviewing cost, quality, and progress reports.
OR
Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree; for 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related.
For the GS-11, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-09 in the Federal service.
Experience for this position includes supervising employees in the office and indirectly supervising employees working in a decentralized and geographically dispersed location to ensure work is completed on time; maintain constant and daily communication with management and subordinates; assisting in directing data collection activities; assisting in developing procedures to meet all budget, time, and quality goals; and experience reviewing and analyzing various reports such as cost, progress, performance, payroll, personnel, recruiting and quality reports.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree; or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.M., if related.
For the GS-012, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service.
Experience for this position includes: supervising employees in the office and indirectly supervising employees working in a decentralized and geographically dispersed location to ensure work is completed on time; maintain constant and daily communication with management and subordinates; directing data collection activities; developing procedures to meet all budget, time, and quality goals; and experience reviewing and analyzing various reports such as cost, progress, performance, payroll, personnel, recruiting and quality reports.
Education: Education cannot be substituted for Specialized Experience at his grade level.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
