This career seasonal position is located in Mount Rainier National Park, in the Division of Maintenance. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. Duties

Major Duties Replaces solenoids, relays, control modules, water pumps, fuel injectors, spark plugs, brake shoes, wheel bearings, ball joints, steering linkages, mufflers, radiator caps, engine gaskets, a variety of belts and hoses, tires, and complete assemblies such as removing old engines and replacing them with new engines. Adjusts brakes, transmission linkages, gear lash and bearing end play, engine idle, voltage and current control valves, sensing valves, expansion valves, and pressure regulator valves. Cleans or replaces filters, screens, battery cables and clamps, engine components, and heating and cooling devices. May assist with, or prepare, monthly reports, requisitions for supplies and parts, job reports and vehicle labor and parts forms. Prepares reports using the computer using such programs as Word, Excel, and the FMSS programs. Performs vehicle and equipment operation checks in order to determine safety deficiencies or service requirements of all park vehicles and equipment. Career-Seasonal positions are subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee is estimated be in a non-pay/non-duty status from mid-November until late-November. Physical Demands: The incumbent is required to make repairs which often require them to work in tiring, awkward, and uncomfortable positions, and the work performed frequently involves standing for long periods of time, bending, stooping, crawling under vehicles, and making repairs in other tight spaces. The incumbent frequently lifts, handles, and carries parts and equipment weighing up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds), and occasionally moves moderately heavy items weighing up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds) with assistance or with mechanical devices. Working Conditions: Work is usually performed inside on concrete surfaces where there is exposure to drafts, noise, and fumes from vehicles. Occasionally the work may be performed outside under adverse weather conditions. The incumbent is continually exposed to dirt, dust, and grease, and to the potential for burns, chemical irritations, shocks, bruises, cuts, and strains. To reduce the dangers and irritations from these conditions, the incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety shoes and glasses, and respirators. Mount Rainier National Park is located approximately 2 hours southeast of Seattle, near Ashford and Elbe. Both are very small rural communities with some housing available for rent or purchase, convenience stores, gas, church, and an elementary school (K-6). Eatonville (32 miles from Longmire) and Morton are both larger rural communities of several thousand people and have a wider variety of services; kindergarten through high school, licensed childcare, doctor, dentist, banks, grocery stores, pharmacy, movie theater, etc. as well as availability of housing for rent or purchase. Complete shopping, hospitals, and post- high school education options are available in Puyallup or Tacoma, approximately 60 miles. Outdoor recreational opportunities include hiking, climbing, skiing, birding, canoeing and kayaking, biking, and fishing. The climate is considered moderate at lower elevations, but is frequently overcast and rainy. At Longmire, substantial snowfall is common from November-May. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: 1.) Ability to do the work without normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Must have the ability to perform the most difficult and complex tasks as an automotive mechanic working independently in a full-service shop, responsible for providing preventative maintenance, troubleshooting / diagnosis, and providing reliable repairs for a variety of motorized equipment such as fleet vehicles which require gasoline, diesel, electric, and hybrid sedans, vans, 4x4 pickups, SUV's, engineering equipment including dump trucks, backhoes, and loaders; generators with 12 volt DC/120 AC electrical. I have a valid state drivers license. 2.) Knowledge of Equipment assembly, installation, repair, etc. 3.) Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) 4.) Use of Measuring Instruments 5.) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (includes blueprint reading) 6.) Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment. 7.)
