THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (MTP) OBO, Position Description Number NGD2460000 and is part of the TN ARMY Army National Guard. This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 110.

Duties

As a HELICOPTER FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (MILITARY) GS-2181-13, you will serve as rotary wing Instructor Pilot (IP/MTP). Train and evaluate aviators on basic and advanced flight techniques. This includes the procedures to use in emergencies and malfunctions over rough terrain, e.g., hills and forests both day and night. Training includes instruction and evaluation for operating unique electronics equipment, such as precision, non-precision, and GPS route navigation and approaches. Perform preflight weather analysis, route and altitude selections, alternate airport selection, fuel, cargo and passenger load computations, selection of refueling stops, preflight inspections, flight plan filing, and firing ranges route planning/coordination. Incorporates precision, non- precision, and GPS route navigation and instrument approaches in all mission planning and must be knowledgeable in all aspects of their operations. Maintain and study current and complete files of aeronautical publications, navigation charts, instrument approach procedures, air traffic control procedures. Serves as rotary and/or fixed wing Standardization Instructor Pilot (SIP). Serve as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot (MTP) and/or Functional Check Pilot (FCP). Serve as Aviation Safety Officer (ASO) carrying out a variety of duties to provide a productive aviation safety program for the Army Aviation Support Facility. Serve as Maintenance Test Pilot (ME)/Functional Check Pilot (FCP) Evaluator: Serves as rotary wing Maintenance Test Pilot/Function Check Pilot Evaluator. Serve as Aviation Mission Survivability Officer. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.

  • Maintenance Test Pilot qualifications require attendance in the Maintenance Test Pilot Course IAW AR 95-1.
  • Instructor Pilot require attendance in the Instructor Pilot Course and qualifications IAW AR 95-1.
  • Aviation Mission Survivability Officer require attendance in the Aviation Mission Survivability Officer Course and qualifications IAW AR 95-1.
  • Aviation Safety Officer require attendance in the Aviation Safety Officer Course and qualifications IAW AR 95-1.
  • Instrument Examiner qualifications require attendance in the Instrument Examiner Course IAW AR 95-1.
  • Maintenance Examiner qualifications IAW AR 95-1.
  • Standardization Instructor Pilot qualifications IAW AR 95-1
  • Incumbent must possess and continue to maintain a US Army Class II Flight Physical.
  • Temporary Duty travel may be required
  • This is a drug testing designated position (TDP) under the Department of the Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Program.

Qualifications

Military Grades: CW2 through CW3 Compatible Military Assignments: Branch 15 - Aviation or Branch 67 - Medical Service Corps GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts; have a minimum of one year on the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level; possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and the required competencies competent understanding of the occupation's basic principles and concepts; have a minimum of one year on-the-job experience in the grade (or a comparable military rank) immediately below the next higher level; possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates -OR- appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the mainframe military aircraft of employment, and the required competencies. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least one year in the next lower grade or at least 36 months specialized experience in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft, mission planning, and mission preparation. Experience reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information; experience in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings. Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments. Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations or surveillance and reconnaissance. Competent in conducting or supervising the training of crew members in simple to complex mission specific tasks. Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders; knowledge in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures. Experience in the unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of Defense, Department of the Army, National Guard Bureau, and/or Occupational Safety and Health Administration policies, regulations, and directives.

Education

Educational and Certification Requirements: Must have a high school diploma or general education development (GED) diploma.
