As a Lead Auditor (Performance) at the GS-0511-14 level, you will be part of Office of the Inspector General, Office of Personnel Management. If selected, you will be responsible for auditing and leading team members that are auditing OPM or contractor organizations, programs, activities, information systems, and/or functions to assess compliance with program laws, regulations, and contract provisions.
Duties
Leads a team of professional auditors ranging in grades from GS-5 through GS-13.
Gathers evidence in the audit process through inspection, observation, inquiries, and work sample to establish whether an activity is adhering to prescribed regulations, contract provisions, and policies and procedures.
Discusses results of the reviews and any potential recommendations with stakeholders.
Conducts audits in accordance with generally accepted government auditing standards.
Develops audit plans.
Analyzes audit findings to prepare draft reports.
Qualifications
All applicants must meet one of the following, as a basic requirement:
A. Degree in Auditing; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, public administration or accounting.
OR
B. A combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in Performance Auditing, or an equivalent combination of performance auditing experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional auditing knowledge.
AND
1. A certificate as a Certified Internal Auditor or a Certified Public Accountant, obtained through written examination
OR
2. Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in auditing or accounting (e.g. 15 semester hours).
Additional requirements:
For the GS14: You must have You must have one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-13 level which includes: 1) developing work papers to document the audit process and results; 2) explaining audit objectives, issues, findings, and recommendations with designated management officials being audited; 3) devising audit approaches and methodologies as determined by the analysis or risk assessment of program areas; 4) Planning and carrying out the work of a team of professional auditors. Merit promotion applicants must meet time-in-grade requirement as defined in 5 CFR 300, Subpart F. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS 14 level.
