Requirements

  • NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

Qualifications

AREA OF CONSIDERATON: HRO MUST process and clear the Department of Defense (DoD), Priority Placement Program (PPP), prior to advertising all internal and external job vacancies and promotion announcements. Area 1 = All permanent Warrant Officers and Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. Area 2 = All indefinite Warrant Officers and Enlisted members employee (NG T32/NG T5) within Puerto Rico Army National Guard. First round consideration will be given to Area 1 Candidates. (All other Areas will be screened only in the event that there are no qualified or recommended Candidates). To prevent a grade inversion, military rank allowed for this position will be determined at the final evaluation of the vacancy announcement considering the military rank of the supervisor. Acceptance of any military technician position may cause the termination of entitlements and eligibility for all military bonuses and student loan repayments. DUTIES: As a MACHINIST (D1213000), WU-3414-11, you will perform machining operations that involve the manufacture of complex and non-routine parts and items from raw stock of differing metals, metal alloys, and other materials in support of maintenance activities. Work products are typically one-of-a-kind and involve unusual trade problems that require a high degree of ingenuity and responsibility. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires standing, stooping, bending, and reaching. Frequently handles, lifts, and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds. At times required to lift and move items weighing in excess 50 pounds with the help of weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed inside in areas that are usually noisy and dirty, and where there is a constant danger to the skin and eyes from flying metal chips and abrasive particles. There is the possibility of skin irritation from contact with coolants, lubricants, and abrasive compounds. There is danger to fingers, hands, and other parts of the body from cutting tools, grinding wheels, rotating pieces, and moving parts of machines. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience, education or training which demonstrate the candidates has enough knowledge of machining processes. Must have the ability to use drill presses, shapers, planers, and other types of associated machine tools. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicant must possess at least EIGTHEEN (18) months of specialized experience performing or supervising duties such as fabricating complex and non-routine items; performs machining work; developing and manufacturing specialized tools; planning and laying out work from blueprints, sketches, drawings, or specifications; completing dimensions, tolerances, or specifications that are incomplete or incorrect; redesigning items to achieve desired results; performing machine setups using advanced shop mathematics, and geometric and trigonometric formulas; determining procedures, tools, machines, equipment, and attachments to use; Setting up and operating most types of conventional and/or Computer Numerical Control (CNC) machine tools; adjusting and setting speeds and feeds of machinery; performing precision handwork, heat-treating, welding, and soldering.
