This position is located Andersonville National Historic Site, in the Resource Management Division. This position will be a shared position with Jimmy Carter National Historical Park in Plains, Georgia and will be expected to perform duties at both sites. Duties

As a Interdisciplinary/Historian/Archeologist/Museum Curator, you will perform the following duties: Directs an intricate program of cultural resources management activities that involve sensitive and complex issues that impact a wide variety of park issues. Prepares and coordinates the efforts of others in the preparation of resources management plans and specific actions plans to pertain to the management and protection of cultural and natural resources. Assists cultural resources management staff in the parks by providing direct professional and programmatic advice and support. Assists natural resources management staff in the park through coordination with NPS specialists. Carries out program management duties by developing work plans, schedules, scopes of work, cost estimates, and proposals and/or grants to justify funding requests and accomplish goals. Administers and tracks project funds and prepare accomplishment reports as needed. Coordinates archeological site monitoring within the parks. Develops and implements archeological resource monitoring strategy and contributes to the development of resource protection strategies. Collects, analyzes, and synthesizes scientific information from research; monitors resources management actions and other sources of information and prepares reports for projects. Incorporate Geographic Information Systems (GIS) technology into job to provide comprehensive and scientifically sound answers to inquiries.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/22/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. Failure to adequately provide information needed to determine number of hours worked in each position may result in that time not being credited when evaluating qualifying experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected. This is an interdisciplinary position which may be filled in any of the following occupational series: Museum Curator - 1015, Archeologist - 0193 or History - 170. You must meet one of the following basic qualification requirements below, for the Integrated Resources Program Manager, GS-1015/0193/170-11. If you do not meet these basic qualifications, you will be considered not qualified and will not receive consideration for this position. Basic Requirements for the History Series 0170: A. Degree: Successful completion of a full four-year course study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in history; or related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history. Transcripts must be provided. OR B. Combination of Experience and Education: Courses equivalent to major in history, or a major in a related field that included at least 18 semester hours in history, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. Transcripts must be provided. NOTE: Graduate study in the social sciences or humanities may also be credited when such study included training in historical research methodology, or the thesis approached the subject from an historical viewpoint and used professional historical research methodology and techniques in its preparation. Basic Requirement for the Archeology Series 0193: A. Education - 1. Degree: Degree that includes 3 semester hours each in the following course areas: History of archeology. Archeology of a major geographical area such as North America or Africa. Regional archeology, archeological cultures, or sites in a specific part or portion of a major geographical area to acquire or develop a foundation for regional specialization for professional development. Theory and methods of archeology. Methods include, but are not limited to, typology, classification, sampling, cultural evolution, diffusion, dating and analytical techniques. Archeological field school to provide a basic understanding of theoretical and practical approaches to research design implementation, field preservation techin1ques and report preparation by participation in actual field work. AND Six semester hours of related course work in: Geography, geology, or cultural geography; History, historiography, or historical archeology; Environmental studies; Scientific writing (nonfiction English composition); and/or Surveying. AND Archeological field school. OR 2. Related Curriculum: Successful completion of a full four-year course study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in anthropology with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or related discipline may be accepted as satisfying in full the educational requirements, provided the curriculum supplied academic course work sufficiently similar to the requirements in A.1 (including archeological field school). Transcripts must be provided. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education or training that provided knowledge equivalent to that described in A above, plus appropriate technical experience or additional education. OR C. Experience: Four years archeological work experience that demonstrated a thorough knowledge of the fundamental principles and theories of professional archeology. The work experience must have included archeology field experience, which may include that gained in an archeological field school. Field experience should have included a combination of professional experience in archeological survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. Applicants with such field experience should, after additional experience under the direction of a higher-grade archeologist, be able to demonstrate the ability to be a crew chief, directing the work of others at a single location as a part of a larger archeological project. Basic Requirements for the Museum Curator Series 1015: 1.Degree: Successful completion of a full four-year course study leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in museum work; or in an applicable subject-matter field. Transcripts must be provided. OR 2. Combination of Experience and Education: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. OR 3. Experience: Four-years of experience that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the four-year course of study as shown in A above. In addition to meeting one of the Basic Requirements listed above, applicants must also meet one of the minimum qualifications, as outlined below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: (1) Preparing historical research for cultural resource documents, developing plans for the inventory, evaluation, documentation, preservation, and research. (2) survey, excavation, laboratory analysis, and preparation of written materials. (3) technical expertise; assisting with the management museum collection storage, documenting museum collections with special emphasis on architectural, archeological, archival, and history collections; assisting with project development including planning and management of a unit and/or program. You must include hours per week worked. OR EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. You must include transcripts. OR Combination of Experience and Education: Combinations of successfully completed education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. To compute this percentage, first divide the total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then divide the number of completed higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree semester hours of education (that are in excess of 36 semester hours) by 36. Add the two percentages together; the total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. NOTE: Only higher-level graduate education leading to a master's or equivalent degree in excess of more than two-years may be used to qualify for this position. You must include a copy of your transcripts.
