This position is located in the St. Paul District. The incumbent performins a variety of maintenance, repair, operational, and custodial duties. This position is temporary not to exceed six months.
Duties
Applies a variety of standardized methods, procedures, and techniques in the maintenance and repair of gates, hoists, pumps, and generators.
Constructs, repairs, or modifies items such as panels, bins, concrete forms, framework, rafters, floors and interior and exterior trim and a variety of additional wood items.
Fabricates and installs shelves, counters, bulletin boards, cabinets, bookcases and related items with built-in characteristics.
Performs maintenance and minor repair activities requiring application of plumbing, welding, sandblasting, and brush and spray-painting techniques.
Performs a variety of miscellaneous duties such as maintaining roads, clearing debris from lake or channels and operating motorboats, motor vehicles, light trucks, and tractors.
Services public rest rooms, empties refuse cans, polices picnic areas, and removes debris from public grounds.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Physical Examination. This position requires successful completion of pre-employment and/or annual physical examinations as required. Applicants must be physically able to perform efficiently the duties of the position.
- This position meets the criteria for random drug testing under the Department of Army Drug-Free Workplace Program as supplemented by USACE ER 690-1-1218.
- Incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid, State-issued Driver’s license.
- Incumbent is required to wear a Corps of Engineers uniform.
- Incumbent must lift objects up to and occasionally in excess of 50 pounds.
- Employees are required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Minimum Qualifications: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker Helper without more than normal supervision. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform routine tasks involving the use of basic hand tools and equipment to perform grounds and/or building maintenance and custodial services. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Physical effort: Lifts, carries, and moves materials and equipment weighing over 50 pounds. Is required to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions, works from ladders, scaffolds, or platforms, and exercises strenuous effort in moving materials and placing equipment.
Working conditions: Preponderance of work is performed outside in extremes of temperature and weather conditions. Is subject to strains and similar types of injuries from lifting tools, heavy equipment, and materials. Frequently exposed to the risk of broken bones, cuts, bruises, maimed fingers, and scrapes.Occasionally may be required to wear uncomfortable protective clothing.
