About the Position: This position is located on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State. Duties are performed at Fort Lewis or outlying serviced activities such as Fort Lawton, Vancouver Barracks, and other remote sites.
Duties
inspects and determines the scope of infestation and exterminates a wide variety of insect and animal pests.
Follow written instructions on labels and apply formulas in order to mix chemicals to proper strength.
Ability to determine proper amounts of chemicals to be mixed based on the size of the area to be treated.
Utilize equipment such as power and gas operated sprayers, dusters, ultra low volume and tractor sprayers.
Follow Federal and State requirements relating to pesticide and herbicide use and safety standards.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent may be required to lift up to 50 pounds in the course of normal duties.
- Incumbent must possess a valid State Driver's License.
- Incumbent is subject to a pre-employment and an annual physical evaluation.
- Incumbent must possess or be able to obtain Department of Defense and State Certification in Pest Control.
- Incumbent must possess a Class C Commercial State Drivers License at the time of application for the WG-09 level. The Class C Commercial Driver's License must be submitted with the application package.
- Incumbent is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Incumbent must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain State License for Pest Control within six months of employment, for the WG-07 level.

WG-07, Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Pest Controller without more than normal supervision. Determine and mix the proper strength and amount of chemicals based on the size of the area to be treated, with guidance and instruction from journey-level employee or a supervisor. I have the ability to determine the nature and scope of infestation in order to identify hazards to structures; adhere to Federal and State laws in relation to mixing, apply and dispose of restricted use pesticides; change nozzles, valves, or hoses on equipment using wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers, or similar hand tools, and have the ability to assist in operator maintenance on application equipment as required under close supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
WG-09, Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Pest Controller without more than normal supervision. Determine and mix the proper strength and amount of chemicals based on the size of the area to be treated. I have the ability to determine the nature and scope of infestation in order to identify hazards to structures; interpret Federal and State laws in relation to mixing, apply and dispose of restricted use pesticides; determine appropriate tools to use such as hand, power and gas operated sprayers, dusters and tractor sprayers, depending on the type of extermination that is required, and have the ability to perform operator maintenance on application equipment as required. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Efforts: Frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally heavier. Work requires frequent standing, stooping, bending, kneeling, climbing and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions for extended periods. Moves equipment and furniture as required.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. When working outside is often exposed to hot sun for extended periods of time and occasionally to bad weather. Inside work is often performed in structural areas with minimum ventilation and/or limited access. Exposed to dust, dirt, toxic vapors, liquids, powders; infestation of pests that carry diseases; cuts bruises, insect bites and stings. Mixes and applies pesticides and herbicides while wearing respirators, gloves and other personal protective equipment designed to nullify the risk of exposure to toxic dust and sprays which might damage health. Damage to health may occur if appropriate safety procedures are not followed. May be exposed to poisonous insects and plants and to wild and rabid animals.
Education
